Comments: worldcup celebration

fantastic shots, those crowds of fans were amazing!! and it's a bit sad that the World Cup is over, I'm sure going to miss the excitement and great atmoshpere that came with it.. (btw, I did find you among the football fans in the second shot no problem ;)

superb yet again.. you have captured the moods very right :)
did you take part in the celebration btw? :D

That's amazing ... here in germany we had quite similar appearances of italians partying their victory over france. But I think they just had very much luck, also when they played against germany. As long as it's peaceful one should not mind who wins; it was a very big party and the germans can be proud again of their own country and of what they achieved. Nice capture!

Great match last night, wasnt really rooting for anyone! Great photos, really captures the Italian feelings!

Posted by Craig at July 10, 2006 06:13 AM

Some nice-looking women, those Italy fans!

Posted by Mike at July 10, 2006 06:17 AM

Glad that isn't my car she is celebrating on!!

Posted by Matt at July 10, 2006 07:17 AM

Great series of shots, they all show a different side of the story yesterday. The last one is my favorite, it looks like the croud goes on forever.

Posted by Steve W at July 10, 2006 07:36 AM

the last photo is great!
viva italia :)

Good journalistic impression.

Posted by Chantal at July 10, 2006 07:55 AM

Congratulations to Italy!!!
Somehow sad that the Worldcup is ended, it was soooo much fun and passion and great parties. We almost celebrated every match with new friends from around the world here in Germany.

And by the way, I do love your photos Sam! Everyday a great job.

Great eye for subjects!

the last photo is my favorite...

Posted by Marius Muscalu at July 10, 2006 08:05 AM

Nice shots. The first pic is really hot, I love the feel of the second one, the thrid one is awesome, and the last one is really cool too. DId you get flashed by crazy fans? It would have been sweet. Nice shots.

Posted by Wesley Yendrys at July 10, 2006 08:10 AM

Great shots. I, unfortunately, was on a plane back to NYC when they went into the penalty kick shootout. Else, I would have been on St. Clair myself.

I like the "Where's Sam" shot. I found you by the way; indifferent to the excitement around you. =)

great pictures and congratulations to Italy. I won £32 in the offics sweapsteak!

Posted by Vanella Mead at July 10, 2006 08:33 AM

Very nice shots. It's an interesting contrast between Toronto and the US, where I am now, that people did not get this excited about the World Cup victory (maybe in some bigger cities they did). Good coverage of the fans, Sam (and I think I see you in the pub shot).

Posted by Susanna at July 10, 2006 09:07 AM

WOW!!!! amazing shots. wow you caught it perfectly.

Posted by Andrew at July 10, 2006 09:19 AM

Nice to see Italians all over the world celebrate. Beautiful girl on the car!

Posted by Frederic at July 10, 2006 09:53 AM

wow. you would've thought people in nyc would be out and celebrating as well... nothing like this. great captures of the moment.

Posted by eric y at July 10, 2006 10:00 AM

The bottom shot is the best...the one in the cafe is not bad either...but the last one just oozes 'action'!

As nice as the woman is in the first shot ;) i'm not sure i'd want to be the owner of that dented roof car!! is true..people do start to look like their pets after awhile!!

Posted by tb at July 10, 2006 10:03 AM

Woah, that's nothing compared to what happened around 11:00-2:00am. Reporters...giant red/white/green crowd balloons, fireworks, people standing on bus shelters, loud music, police and RCMP riot police, TONS of garbage EVERYWHERE, people on roof tops, celebration banners, a sea of Italian flags...

Truly the most incredible site I've seen in downtown Toronto. Too bad we have to wait another 4 years to see this again.

Great shots!

Posted by David at July 10, 2006 10:17 AM

Surprising to see how many Italians were celebrating so far away from Italy! Thanks for sharing!

Campioni del mondo!!!!

Campioni del mondo!!!!!!!!!!

Especially the first one is just great.

howa! incredible!
flood of people! :D

Posted by suzi q. at July 10, 2006 11:17 AM

So much jubilation over a small group of men kicking a ball around on a field. Humanity is very, very strange.

You've captured the exuberance quite wonderfully!

Posted by Kathy at July 10, 2006 11:37 AM

Great, GREAT shots, Sam! Hope you had a wonderful time! I finally managed to get back up to St. Clair by 7 and it was wilder than I could have imagined. Will be uploading some pix today.

Great shots!

I picked you out of the crowd and I didn't even know what you look like: you're the only one looking at the camera instead of the TV :-)

Posted by Dan at July 10, 2006 01:46 PM

They are all excellent, my favorite is the second one from top. You captured their excitement and joy at exactly right moment.

Posted by noushin at July 10, 2006 01:47 PM

Nice... if my Italian side is powerfull active now

Posted by Maicoll Dalpiaz at July 10, 2006 01:52 PM

I'm so happy for Itly is the winner of the world cup 2006.

Posted by Pooriya at July 10, 2006 02:12 PM

Campioni! Del Mondo!!
Last shot has a strange fashinating light, they're all great shots as usual ;-)

Posted by Davide at July 10, 2006 02:51 PM

wonderful, you've captured all the emotion. Well done the Italians. The wife feels better that her Australian team were put out by the world champions.

Posted by photoDude at July 10, 2006 03:51 PM

GREAT shots, now everyboby thinks (in the second photo) the whole crowd is Italians!!
nice capture

Posted by Arash at July 10, 2006 04:33 PM

The first shot is totally immodest.
Fear Allah, Sami!

Posted by frankly cantsay at July 10, 2006 05:44 PM

These pics are okay but Italy totally wouldn't have won if it weren't for Zizou's craziness...

Posted by Avi at July 10, 2006 07:26 PM

The last shot is the best. You have a hot babe in the front and a crowd in back to provide perspective.

Posted by Ed at July 10, 2006 08:02 PM

That last shot is the best!

Posted by photosapience at July 10, 2006 08:07 PM

You're kidding, right, "Frankly"? These are great, emotional shots, Sam. Nice range, too, from the crowd shots to the tight faces. Lotsa fun.

Posted by MarkDM at July 10, 2006 08:08 PM

Terrific photos, Sam!

Posted by Rob at July 10, 2006 09:31 PM

Italy didn't deserve the championship. The team didn't observe any good sportmanship and the impious innuendo Materazzi made can only evidence of their being jerks. I have never been a soccer fan, let alone a French fan so you may be composed that I am commenting quite unbias

Posted by thilo at July 10, 2006 09:53 PM

Awesome series! you really captured the excitement.

Posted by Laurie at July 10, 2006 10:23 PM

Viva Italia! I really like the last photograph. Thanks for capturing these emotional happy Italian fans! Some how I knew for sure that today’s captures would be in regards to the celebration yesterday. So thank you!

Posted by antonella at July 11, 2006 01:01 AM

I was stuck at work while the fun took place - wish I got out with my camera too! Great pics Sam, as usual!

Anyways, great shots you captured the emotion very well! great job!

good shots.

Posted by max at July 11, 2006 05:27 PM

These shots really capture the mood of the moment and I specially like the one with the dog wearing teh Italy T-Shirt. That dog looks like J's partner in Men in Black 2.

Posted by navin harish at July 12, 2006 02:23 AM

très belles photos, même si j'aurais préféré que ça soit des français dessus...

Posted by Janicks at July 12, 2006 01:34 PM

Wow. These are some awesome, awesome photos. Especially the top one and the bottom one. Good stuff all around!

Posted by P.J. at July 13, 2006 01:52 PM
