nice composition
and I love the colours and contrast :)

Great subject! I'd be really interested to see a night shot of this too!

Unique perspective on this cool looking building and sign. Great shot!

I like the chosen angle a lot.

Have a great weekend!

ahhhhhhh who can resist the lure of the ol' canary? I wonder if the owners make more money renting it out to film/tv shoots than as a restaurant....
-Beautiful shot sir

Now this is a classic shot.

Do you mean the server at the Canary restaurant is now stable? How was she not yesterday? :P

Posted by Sam at June 2, 2006 10:27 AM

Awesome angle! i really like the colours too on this one.

Very nice pic i thought that it was very cool, good that you got everything fixed!

I like love old brick buildings like that. The old neon sign really adds to it as well. We got a lot of sights like this in Winnipeg too, just not in the nicest of areas to walk around by yourself with a camera.

Posted by Andrew at June 2, 2006 12:19 PM

gorgeous! i'm a sucker for old neon, but the tones in this are really wonderful.

Posted by degan at June 2, 2006 12:24 PM

I like the tones and perspective. The sky is lovely.

Posted by Laurie at June 2, 2006 12:34 PM

I really love the rich color of those bricks against the sky. Beautiful.

Up up to the sky!
Nice shape with Art Deco Style.

Dear Sam

I was born and raised in downtown Toronto and, due to circimstances, was displaced to Amsterdam about 9 years ago. I watch your site daily for your incredibly creative view of my home town. I haven't added my comments to the legions of compliments until now, but seeing your trials recently, with the theft etc. I am moved to comment.

Apart from this being a great picture, why are you apologising after all you have given to your many viewers and admirers?

Please keep producing your wonderful images. If there are technical difficulties,it is our temporary loss, but not your fault.

Greetings from Amsterdam. And thank you for this shot of the Canary Restaurant.

As Ryan mentioned, the Canary is used regularly in movie/TV shoots. They shot multiple scenes from the movie "Chicago" here, as well as a couple in "Cinderella Man". I'd love to see some other creative shots of this one.

Great pic', a night/early evening shot of this would be good.

Posted by Paul Hullock at June 2, 2006 05:55 PM

Hey- this is good stuff :)

ps ---haha - he means that his web server is stable - not the server at the restaurant

Posted by andrea mallozzi at June 2, 2006 11:10 PM

Thanks! For 20 to 30 I ate or had a coffee at the Canary at least two or three times a month but not for the last few years; maybe once or twice in the last three or four years. It is great just seeing the sign and have it bring back memories, of the characters and staff that I met there over the years.

Thanks
Widepart

Man, they must go through alot of eggs. You'd need, what, about 35 of those tiny eggs just to make a decent omelette?
