Wow Sam, you astound me once again! Thousands of people have probably taken pictures of Big Ben (myself included), but only you have the talent to find something new and witty to say with your photographs!
Question: do you carry a tripod wherever you go? Your photos always have lines perfectly paralleled with the frame!
Posted by Soloman at November 3, 2005 02:09 AMFunny photo.
I think you should've cropped it a little more at the bottom.
6:43 on the tower and 13:43 in EXIF, what timezone do yu have? :))
Posted by ps at November 3, 2005 02:55 AMi think that satalite from the news truck ruins the shot.
Posted by tee at November 3, 2005 03:12 AMIt's St Stephens Tower actually. Big Ben is inside.
Posted by Aegir at November 3, 2005 03:19 AMLove the positioning, looks like the second camera from the top had been burnt out. Colours and lines are great.
Posted by Ed { tfk } at November 3, 2005 03:51 AMApparently London is the most "watched" city in the world. This sure shows how!
Nice contrast of technology and tradition.
Posted by ROB at November 3, 2005 04:06 AMGreat perspective, nice capture.
Posted by Dan at November 3, 2005 04:06 AMBig brother watching big ben..
Posted by Michael at November 3, 2005 04:07 AMBig Brother's watching Big Ben!
How beautiful is this?
What a wonderful Big Ben! The reflected light with the darkcloud/bluesky backdrop is, as in so many of your posts, very impressive.
Your site has become my breakfast companion. Tks.
Posted by Mary at November 3, 2005 05:14 AMJust when we all thought every possible view of Big Ben had been taken - you found a new interpretation. Kudos.
Posted by karl sinfield at November 3, 2005 06:29 AMI never got to live in paradise I feel - seeing this - beautiful cloudy background with a stunning foreground.
Posted by prasoon at November 3, 2005 07:02 AMBig Ben is the bell!
Posted by Josie at November 3, 2005 07:03 AMBeautiful composition...the clouded sky really compliments the snap..
Posted by Kris at November 3, 2005 07:21 AMI always enjoy your photos. They're so crisp and real, almost jumping off the computer screen. This one of Big Ben looks like a still from a movie. Though I find it odd that there's nothing to the left of the statue other than a lone security camera - Big Brother is watching over the city, eh?
-Mike
Posted by Michael at November 3, 2005 07:43 AMWell spotted.
Posted by Ioannis at November 3, 2005 07:59 AMI really like the composition of Big Brother watching Big Ben.
The lighting is also very good in this photo. Nice work.
Posted by SooGuy at November 3, 2005 08:02 AMominous...
Posted by alice at November 3, 2005 08:27 AMGlad you included the Red traffic light at the bottom of the photo. Don't we all sometime wish we can stop time and enjoy a not-so-rushed life?
Posted by Moussa at November 3, 2005 08:27 AMThe detail here is supurb!!
Posted by Phil at November 3, 2005 08:34 AMyou got a nice contrast between old age vs. new age. very well done Sam!
ps. if you could, please change the parent target of this window to '_blank' so the links (ppls homepages) open in a new window instead of this small box. :P
Posted by Faramarz at November 3, 2005 09:00 AMVery interesting composition. Not sure why you included the cameras... but the colour of the building came out great!
Posted by Sharif at November 3, 2005 09:27 AMI think I get your message, and I agree. It's that the lamp is envious of the clocktower. It looks like it wishes it could be big and tall and important like the clock. In fact it's a lot like the father, mother relationship. The mother is the clock who is admired and reveared for always being on time, and reliable, while the father has to go to work everyday providing light and safety for all who are sheltered under him. Ain't that a bitch!! No one ever goes to vist dad to thank him for providing stabillity. If I go to England I'm going to visit the lamp. Fu$k you Miss Big Ben!!!
Posted by keith at November 3, 2005 09:41 AMBrilliant!
Posted by Jim Pfeffer at November 3, 2005 09:42 AMNice closeup shot and the golden colour is great.
Posted by Sanjin at November 3, 2005 09:52 AMnice...not just another tourist photo.
Posted by ry at November 3, 2005 10:07 AMabsolutely stunning Sam, one of my new favorites.
Posted by Shane at November 3, 2005 11:25 AMooh... loving the detail! so crisp & clean...
Posted by Namira at November 3, 2005 11:34 AMGreat shot, the repeated buildings in the bottom right add a nice grounding to the photo.
Posted by aj at November 3, 2005 12:22 PMif you look at this photo for a while, it seems almost in motion. not sure if the tower is entirely straight, in relation to the borders, but it gives an effect of movement, maybe away from the camera pole, which seems to dominate the picture...or does it. interesting, and crisp.
Posted by Nick at November 3, 2005 12:23 PMI'VE NEVER BEEN TO LONDON BUT I'D SAY THIS SUMS IT UP PRETTY NICE. THANKS FOR THE GREAT PHOTOS. IT'S MY BREAK AT WORK EVERYDAY!
Posted by BETHANY at November 3, 2005 01:10 PMSPETTACOLARE!!!!
Posted by odY at November 3, 2005 02:03 PMBig Ben is fine. I'd never seen a photo that shows all those other towers in the background.
But that picture your footnote refers to of the Whitby Psycho Hosp. is wild. That cell reminds me of the check out cells they use in the Don Jail (Toronto) though they have a bed and not a smashed toilet. Though a person may be innocent they get treated to ugly conditions that make it hard to be tidy and together when you get to court. Total crap of prisons and judicial attitudes.
I wonder what the patient (?) used to smash that toilet?
Posted by Hugh Petrie at November 3, 2005 02:12 PMHow about a wallpaper version?
Posted by Randy at November 3, 2005 02:31 PMthis is absolutely gorgeous.

Posted by Mehdi HE at November 3, 2005 06:22 PMFantastic, Mr. Javanrouh or as we say in Portuguese... Fantástico!
The global tone is just perfect and the composition couldn't be better.
Posted by nuno f at November 3, 2005 09:27 PMInteresting to see the traditional landmarks of the city and the recent technology like this... love the contrast there.
Also, the clouds behaved beautifully for you here. The gray clouds make a nice contrast to the tower, and there's just enough blue sky peeking through to keep it interesting.
Parallel lines! Almost round clock!
Posted by Panoramatic at November 4, 2005 03:36 PMBeing so close to the 5th makes the visual comment even more powerful.
Posted by John at November 5, 2005 09:56 AMWow!
