Comments: empty streetcar

Nice! Love the symmetry. Feels like I could walk on and take a seat.

I've always wanted to take a shot like this of my own! Brilliant job. I love how you capture the unique spirit of the city.

I can't decide whether this is maddeningly off-centre or brilliantly off-centre. I think the former, because I really want those red traffic-lights to be symmetrically aligned. If only you had stood five inches to your right!

I love the reds, and the reflections of the seats in the windows. The light is perfect.

Two things:

Please tell me that the car was stationary, that you didn't handhold this for 0.3 seconds in a moving streetcar?

And what on earth time of day do you go home in an empty King streetcar?

the contrast of the Red seats make it look very nice.

Man, i really like this shot. The reds. What sort of exposure did u use?

Posted by iGaijin at January 18, 2005 07:36 AM

That is very nice. I really like the colors. It reminds me of an old-time movie theater for some reason. Or a carousel maybe.

wow i really like this photo... what settings did u use? iso, f stop etc

This is why I love Toronto. Public transport that works. You should sell this to the TTC to use as a publicity shot.
Love all your pictures.

Those seats on the outside would be very comfortable in the summer.

Love your work!, A daily feast for my eyes,

Bravo Sam

beautiful shot.

I wish my ride home on the king street car was that nice. Heading west at 5:30 is like crammed concert, except with out the music and shouting.

Posted by travis at January 18, 2005 10:12 AM

Nice meeting you today Sam. Time to get my photoblog back in shape.

Wonderful shot.

Very nice.

I see you also Lomo. Ever do any photography with a Holga? It's a beautiful lo-fi experience.

Posted by stacey at January 18, 2005 10:33 AM

The colour and lighting in this shot make it really cool. How was the camera set up?

Posted by Sean at January 18, 2005 11:33 AM

Great shot. Really got that feeling of night. Makes me glad I don't have to ride the bus alone at night.

Posted by Tyler at January 18, 2005 11:36 AM

pretty colours you've got there. reminds me of Britain in the 1930s...

Posted by Mike at January 18, 2005 12:10 PM

o.3 seconds? Hand-held? On a moving street car? How the hell do you do it??

Posted by James at January 18, 2005 12:26 PM

It looks WARM!

nice wood.

Brilliant. Absolutely Brilliant. Great work. I am once again blown away by your talent. This absolutely captures the essence of Toronto. (I sense that your a bit of a night owl though.)

People are going to start thinking that toronto is an abandoned ghost town because they never see many people. (dont give away the our great canadian stealth invisibility clothing Secret - made by Roots of course)

Hey, I love your site! You take amazing pictures, and you've inspired me to dabble in photography myself. I'm a loyal fan, so keep the great photos coming! This particular one is very symmetrical and clean, it really grabs your attention.

I want to let you know that i think that this shot is great, it almost transports you to another time; you can feel the silence of the car!

About 10 years ago, a group of us were waiting for a steetcar very late on a frigid night. A streetcar came the opposite direction and I suggested that, as we were near the end of the line, that we get on the streetcar and wait for it to turn around and come back. It surely was the only one on the line and we could warm up. They laughed at me, so to prove the point, I wrote down the number of the car and sure enough it was the same one when it arrived. I got to gloat the whole way home. "I told ya so..."

Anyway, I remembered that streetcar # and laugh to myself everytime I see it, and occasionaly remind my stubborn friends.

The streetcar was 4022.
I'm laughing right now.

How about a Windows desktop version of this? Please? It's a really great shot!

Best regards

now, this is really ludic. when you focus on the inside, looks like you are entering some place outside time. but if you let go outside through the windows and stop for a moment in the car behind, you are back.
