Comments: niagara falls at night

Wow, looks like a herd of CG jacks in the foreground, breeding like tribles and controlling their population like lemmings as they plummit over the falls.

Posted by Jeff Werner at January 17, 2005 03:16 AM

Oh wow. I didn't think you'd be able to top the one with the yellow jackets -- this. is. amazing.

I like how the snow formations in the foreground look like starfishes. The mist in the left is beautiful too. Great shot!

Wow... very nice shot! The depth & 3D are very impressive...
Great B/W also

Great (and precarious!) perspective. What sort of plant life is that? Looks like seaweed?

Posted by Simon C at January 17, 2005 04:27 AM

I've been looking at your pictures for a while and this one just made me think "wow". Fantastic shot.

Posted by Steph at January 17, 2005 06:15 AM

WOW! This is one of my favorites on the web now!

Out done yourself, Sam. This is crazy cool!

Posted by Houser at January 17, 2005 07:53 AM

I like the composition on this one, the lights in the background, the flow of the water, the mist as the water hits bottom and the thingy in the foreground come together quite nicely. What are those things in the foreground? They look abit like corals to me. I kinda feel it would be better if there was less mist so more of the waterfall could be seen, to show the vastness of the niagara falls. Just a thought :)

excellent picture...What was the shutter speed for this shot?

Posted by Dan at January 17, 2005 08:51 AM

This is a very nice picture..

I have one VERY similar to that, only mine was taken mid December, when those little shrubs were not covered with ice...

Check it out: http://jui.cc/files/pictures/DSC_1385.jpg

I think we were standing in the same spot!

Posted by miklos at January 17, 2005 08:52 AM

Now that is one incredible photo!

Posted by Spad at January 17, 2005 09:04 AM

Another great shot. Love the light. Handheld at 1/2s? Very impressive.

Posted by flawd logic at January 17, 2005 09:50 AM

That is an amazing shot. Bet it was cold there with all that mist coming off the falls!

Posted by matt at January 17, 2005 10:11 AM

Some kind of wonderful....

Posted by bob at January 17, 2005 10:46 AM

Wow!

Posted by crex at January 17, 2005 11:10 AM

I echo everyone else's comments, and add the explanation for the 'coral'. The heavy mist that comes off the Falls creates a heavy coating of ice all over everything in its vincinity. The curious looking forms in the foreground are actually just shrubs and plants. The twigs have a couple of inches of ice on them, and then a dusting of snow on top of that. Gorgeous effect (pun intended!).

Superb!

I also took a very similar shot on Jan 6th, here's the link:

I think everyone's taken this shot at one point or another. I mean, it's one of the most photographed places in the world.

Posted by Andrew at January 17, 2005 01:32 PM

Beautiful

Posted by Marc E. at January 17, 2005 01:53 PM

For someone who's only seen the falls through other people's fairly ordinary vacation pictures, I had started to think that no original image could come out of a trip to Niagra Falls. This picture, with a combination of good timing and a lovely job of framing the shot proves me wrong.

Posted by Matt at January 17, 2005 02:40 PM

Fantastic photo! And is that a mountain of cheap, Canadian prescription drug capsules in the foreground?

Posted by Neil W. at January 17, 2005 04:13 PM

I love this shot, especially how its taken at night time, and its a black and white shot. I love these dark pictures. A lot of depth.

Posted by Raffi at January 17, 2005 04:28 PM

handheld @ ISO800 w/ 1/2... just amazing... i'm stunned.

Posted by Brian at January 17, 2005 05:25 PM

Nice photo its beautiful.

I also wonder how this photo would look if it were in colour.

Just one question: Why are all those snow covered reindeer jumping over the falls???

Posted by scott at January 17, 2005 06:42 PM

Walked a bit further this year then Sam? Very recognisable place, if a more unusual shot.

Posted by Kim Rickwood at January 17, 2005 07:26 PM
