winter whimsy! the top-heavy tree and the door look like they're sharing a secret, or a moan about the weather...i like the warm/cold contrast, and that angled passageway framing the walkers too.

dude, this shot rocks. I really like it! Must be too cold over there, but anyways, the light-blue and red composition makes a nice scene, warm and cold at the same time, delicious.

woah that's serious hardcore winter over there!

Nice photo, really feels like Christmas/winter

Sharp shot! The colours are bright and bold, even in the distance.

Good picture! It would have been cool to capture the gang walking through the door opening but then you would have missed the building to the right with the lights and trees which really gives a good feel to the image. -Aaron

I don't understand how you can shoot something like this and Nathan Philips Square at night without a tripod, and get such clarity and no blur. Is the Canon 300D that different a camera? From my experience, anything under 1/60 needs a tripod. Great photos! But still a mystery...

Excellent shot as usual.

There's a 'Blue mountains' near Sydney too! Some Australians go to the 'Blue mountains' in July to celebrate another christmas. There's a chance of having snow there at that time of the year!

If you cropped out the cars on the left of the tree in the foreground, and the cars on the right of the door, this would be post-card material :)

Awesome photo.

That red door is so randomly fascinating. Agree with comment above--how'd you get such a crisp shot at 1/10 handheld?

Posted by Alec Long at December 13, 2004 10:49 AM

Fun shot! But I worry about where the rest of the house blew away to.....

Everywhere could be a door,it,s up to us to open it.Very interesting shot.

Incredible shot! Wish I was there.

It is a bit Fargo-esque!

Posted by AA at December 13, 2004 06:29 PM

Hurrah, hurrah, finally snow and a real christmas feel and the shot has a happier feel than the normally serious mode.

I can hear the snow crunch - that wonderful sound of a
good cold crisp winter. Nothing quite like Canada, eh?

Is no one else worried about the death-ray coming out of that street light?

Posted by Khuffie at December 13, 2004 08:55 PM

With 1/10s you're supposed to get at least some minimum amount of blur when your objects are moving... ie... the people. I don't think it's possible at all to take photo this neat with 1/10s and have no blu around the moving people. The points that you said in the forum about handheld slow shutter speed are mostly carried out by myself. You must have read wrong speed. Anyway, the photo is nice but just don't think the technical detail is correct.

4 friends walking to a ski lodge in the snowy northern escape region of ontario... A common ordinary scene for most people... but little do these four friends realise they have already crossed through a door... a very special door... into what we call... the Twillight Zone...

Posted by scott at December 14, 2004 08:25 PM

you all noticed... it really was twillight at that time too right and the door right... (man im wasting this stuff...)
