Comments: first snow

Pretty cool pic, however I'd like to point out that just a little to the north of toronto, it snowed pretty hard. Shoulda had my camera.

It is apparent that you no longer strive to outdo yourself, which you have proved before, and are quite capable of. Is work/wife/kids getting in the way of your creativity?! Haha I'm only kidding, but you can do better!

nice one Sam, this is a great composition.

Wow

How do you take shots like this handheld?

Is this a cropped shot, or do you use a wide angle lens and lean on a steady support?

Curious

Thanks

Snow already? I arrive in Toronto in a few weeks and I was kind of hoping it would be above 0°C. But a white Christmas is nice.

I like the low level of saturation, adds to the feeling of cold.

Sam,

The information says 1/2s, and handheld. Is that correct?

Sunday night we got some snow in some parts of Victoria too (but it was gone in minutes :)

is it a person or a lion? either way, it's awesome.

why wouldn't it be? the picture isn't terribly sharp, and if you also notice, it was shot at iso400, with his 50mm 1.8 shot wide open. it must have been quite dark out, as it still required half a second to get a good exposure under those settings. sam's good at handhelds, but anyone is going to get some blur with 1/2 speeds.

Not one of my favorite shots, seen much better.
I too will look forward to the snowy winter pictures! Down here in south Texas, snow isn't exactly common.

The man with empty eyes. Rainy, snowy or,,he doesn,t care!.
The man who wasn,t there .

There's not so much fun in your pictures lately. I wonder if Toronto isn't inspiring you so much lately? Maybe you should get out of town for a bit, get some new horizons in the viewfinder.

Aaron> temperatures above 0?? you are in for a big disapointment.
iamdamnunique> Its a person. Lions dont have eyebrows and their eyes are not that shape. Let alone the receeding hairline and the bridge of the nose.
Effat> nice poem

i feel so sorry for that man. Its so cold that hes frozen stiff as a statue. See this is why i always tell people to put their hat and gloves on before they go out in winter.

All joking aside. I think staring into this guys eye is pretty boring. I wish there had been a bit more eye candy. This photo just kinda bores me. I feel no emotion at all comming from this photo except man that guy looks as bored as i am and the never ending question "why the heck am I staring into his eye?"

This is one of the least boring pictures I have ever seen. There is an unutterable pathos in his eyes that is intensified by the snow, which he can do nothing about. It's an existentialist's dream.

I only found your site yesterday, so this was the first photograph that I saw of yours. You had me at hello.
