As for vertigo, not quite as powerful as the shot of shoes looking down past the balcony railing a few months back. But still curious as to how you got such a wide unobstructed space. (which part is the 'skypod'?)
Posted by Courtly at November 19, 2004 02:49 AMDon't you mean 90 degrees?

I thought I'd test out your effort on my hubby - he is deathly afraid of heights. He came in and went - yikes! and walked out. ;-) I figure that qualifies it. I said, "come on back in and look at it!" He said, "No thanks. Even virtual heights make me dizzy."
Alternate perspectives - one of the elements I love about your imagery. Thanks!
Posted by amy at November 19, 2004 03:33 AMit worked....
but im "quite sensitive" to vertigo
Posted by heather at November 19, 2004 04:03 AMThey look like toys! Wonderful.
Posted by Ali at November 19, 2004 05:01 AMbecause of the 180 rotation the ground looks like a wall to me, and the cars seem to be about to roll down
Posted by eskimos at November 19, 2004 05:10 AMWell the vertigo works for me. And showing it upside down increases that feeling very much. A nice one. Although it's a pity I have to scroll up and down. That spoils the good composition. For some photographs scrolling adds an extra dimension, like the one with the tower and plane a few days ago.
Posted by Henk Bakker at November 19, 2004 05:38 AMincrease sense in vertigo? yes, i think the pic looks beta vertical then horizontal. it wld be beta if there's a train on one of the tracks.
Posted by IZ at November 19, 2004 05:59 AMAaaargh! I just feel through my monitor. Great picture. I just love being up high. Maybe it's time to come to Toronto?
Posted by Edwinek at November 19, 2004 06:40 AMHoly bloody...You can actually take shots like that from the CN tower?
I need to get my butt down there ;)
Posted by Khuffie at November 19, 2004 07:27 AMThe view is so clear, like there is no floor. Last time I was up the CN Tower, the skypod floor was filled with scratches and dirt. How do you capture such a clean image?
Posted by Aaron at November 19, 2004 08:14 AMVertigo indeed! I felt compelled to turn it around
even before reading your note ... 90 degrees right
(so the rails are on top) made it most
un-disquieting and still interesting for me.
first thig i do when i com to my office is to open this site and everytime i do this I see yesterdays photo, I ahve to refresh the page to look at todays pic. can you do something to remove this issue, I hope I'm not the only one facing this problem

Posted by Rohit at November 19, 2004 08:45 AMthe longer i look at this picture, the longer i find myself wishing you'd dropped the camera.
Posted by chemical imbalance at November 19, 2004 09:23 AMWas it shot vertically or nearly vertically ?
The CN tower has this really great area with a glass floor that lets you walk over some 400m of air... It is a nice place to take pictures of the scared tourists.
Too bad I didn't bring my camera when I visited Toronto.
Vertigo has been increased. Before I read the commentary I was thinking "this thing is making me dizzy."
Not sure the composition is all that interesting but it is a really cool snapshot if nothing else.
Posted by matt at November 19, 2004 10:00 AMdefinitely has a dizzying sense to it. to me, it looks like the cars are going to slide right off into the bottom of the picture!
rohit, change your browser cache settings. in IE, go to tools > internet options. click on the general tab, then settings... under temporary internet files. be sure to have it set to check for a new version of the page on every visit. other browsers have a setting similar to this but you'll have to dig around to find it.
Posted by gleek at November 19, 2004 11:01 AMIt certanly did! Nice photo! Maybe taking it with the sun more up, so there is not so much shadows? Just a thought...
Posted by Rodrigo Gómez at November 19, 2004 11:31 AMWhoa.....nice perspective of the photo....i did the same as Amy did, and yep, he walked straight out of the room. They must have replaced the glass from the scratched and dusted glass from the last time i'd seen.
Rohit - sounds like your settings on your PC. For IE, go to Tools/Options/General/Temp Internet Files settings, and choose Automatically. Chances are, yuou have it to Never, so it uses the previous time you visited. Hope it works.
Posted by 6OH at November 19, 2004 11:39 AMthis is making me kinda sick. love the effect tho ;)
Posted by riff at November 19, 2004 11:45 AMseriously.... it looks like you took a parachute or something. and just to ask again for Aaron, how did you get such a clean image. id imagine the glass must be incredibly dirty.
Posted by Grant at November 19, 2004 11:47 AMWow! This one made me dizzy.
Posted by Jenny at November 19, 2004 12:36 PMit makes all the cars look funny and droopy because of the new angle. strange.
Posted by switch at November 19, 2004 01:24 PMNow we need a picture of a skypod :)

Someone mentioned cars. That's exactly what caught my eye. The vehicles seem to be on their sides due to the shadow effect. Cool shot indeed!
Posted by yamel at November 19, 2004 05:20 PMI'm forced to wonder... is Toronto just filled with amazing perspectives... or do you just have a knack for finding them! I'm certain it's some of the former (you've proven it) but it must certainly be due to the latter.
One reason the photo-tech arguing makes little sense to me regarding your site. The thing you bring is that you must always be looking for these angles... that is, not for the things you take pictures of, but for the angles from which the thing becomes engrossing.
In a way this is "easy"... if you go somewhere amazing and show me a picture of something i've not seen... I'll appreciate it, so in a way it's an ironic comment to offer on this shot which is made of a stunning piece of engineering (a room on a tower with a glass floor, (must. go. there. before. I. die.)... but since it is really great, I felt inspired.
Posted by unger at November 19, 2004 06:04 PMjust to say that i`m a new fan of your work!!
congratulations, go on! :)
I just puked all over my laptop. The rotation worked :)
Posted by Garth at November 19, 2004 10:19 PMVery likely, the cars look "on their sides" because this photo was shot from one of the Skypod's side window. The perspective was then eliminated with a Photoshop plugin to simulate looking straight down.
Posted by Kevin at November 20, 2004 10:12 AMgood photo. I dont feel any vertigo from it though. I think a very large wall print of this photo might be vertigo inducing though. guess im not that affected by heights.
After hearing the explaination about the perspective change I suddenly began to notice how strange some parts of this photo look. Such as the sky walk on the right hand side. You can see the side window. This is not in keeping with the straight down perspective.
I didnt notice this the first time I viewed the photo. It was only after reading the comments and hearing about the change that I began to see it. I still like this photo alot though.
Posted by scott at November 21, 2004 06:23 PMthe things that brought height to my brain were:
1. the shadows: the little ones from the cars to the big one in the bottom right corner that apears to go under you.
2. the vertical rail lines that swerve beneath you.
3. the brilliant white bridges that cross the raillines and give more depth to the photo.
Posted by Myles at November 27, 2004 01:29 AMExcellent view of things-How do you find the views???
