I love the sepia tone...if it was black and white or in colour it wouldn't have been that good. The only question is what the heck is it? Is it a derelict building? It LOOKS like its some sort of subway station to me for some reason...
Posted by Khuffie at November 3, 2004 04:09 AMI love the texture that the peeling paint creates.
Posted by miklos at November 3, 2004 06:26 AMUnfortunately its a pidgeon not a dove. Rats of the sky.
But as always your interesting composition has elevated the subject matter.
The hangman examines the results of his grim business.
Posted by compass at November 3, 2004 09:03 AMit looks so sinister.
Posted by chemical imbalance at November 3, 2004 09:08 AMActually the common pigeon is also known as the rock dove. They are related, so you are technically correct in calling it a dove.
Nice image.
Posted by Allan at November 3, 2004 10:30 AMHitchcock would be proud. This bird is waiting for Tippi Hedren to come out of that decrepit building.
Posted by mockingbird at November 3, 2004 11:37 AMWow, unreal! When the image first splashed up I didn't even see the pigeon...I thought it was a person! Wrapped and bundled up in a black cloak with a bit of face showing, looking over a huge bridge span. Of course that knotted rope made the type of image I saw convey a totally different mood as well.
I was sold on more of a grand sense of scale with it, strange how that happens.
Posted by jawcrusher at November 3, 2004 11:45 AMIf it was a crow instead of a pigeon it would have descibed the mood of the day much better.
Posted by Jafar at November 3, 2004 04:29 PMIts such a good photo. I also think it captures the mood of the day very well. The feeling of empending and unescapable doom of some as yet unforseen misfortune to come. Amazing how a silly little bird sitting on a old paint flaked wall can inspire such feelings. The clicking of the camera was not the skillful part of this photo. The skillful part was noticing this bird and this otherwise uninteresting wall and realising that it was very much worthy of recording in this photo. Most people would not take the time to notice such things. An otherwise uninteresting common everyday pigeon captured in a beautiful and emotionally captivating way. Good work.
P.S. I think the bird is just reflecting and taking time to deside whose head he will drop his special suprise on this morning.... hmmmmm decisions decision.... so difficult...
Posted by scott at November 3, 2004 06:32 PMAt first I thought it was a muslim woman in her robe. Nicely taken.
On top of my previous comment , does this have something to do with the elections?

I really like this photo. Poor little pigeon looks cold up there. As this really was a cold day in hell, huh? Oh well. Like that tuby little bird, we shall survive and move on! ;-) Count on it!
Posted by Emerald at November 3, 2004 09:02 PMActually pigeons are doves, and doves are pigeons!
Not an autoritave source, but interesting:

Posted by Ross at November 3, 2004 09:58 PMThat knot looks an awful lot like a noose. combined with the bird, its a terribly depressing photo. i sure hope it has nothing to do with the elections (being an american), lol. maybe with the death of ddog?. prolly not, but just a thought. (i like to look into meaning that isnt realy there)
Posted by Grant at November 3, 2004 11:23 PMThe mood of the photo is perfectly appropriate for today... sorry, I can't get over this election...
Posted by Ninjaess at November 4, 2004 12:06 AMSorry but I just find it boring... May be because I hate those damn flying rats!
