"...and on occasion, late at night, The Colonel would step to The Palace window, look out over the city and whisper, 'You are mine...all mine'..."

once again, sam (may I call you sam?) you've displayed your wonderful Eye. wel done!

Helmut Kohl ?

The colonel is alive and well and is living in a Toronto boarding house at, of all places, Dundas and University. Great shot.

wow. even without that shadow the textures and colors, hi/low contrasts, and composition of this pic are incredible. but hey, that shadow, that's one in a million. most excellent shot.

i agree with john, the contrast is what makes this photo great.

I am always struck by Toronto's strong light - or is it Sam's strong eye? I have never been there, (I'm in Portland OR) but the light reminds me of the light in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. I can feel the sun and how cold it is. Wonderful.

Harry Truman?

The shadow is truly impressive - great catch there! The contrast between the walls is truly stunning. Awesome work.

its a really really really good amazing fantastic superb photo of a boring little strange statue in a old little window.

That being said... if I am to be subjected to viewing a boring little strange statue in a little window, then Id want to see this one. Its an amazingly good photo of a odd little subject.

P.S. Hans Blix?????

could it be Mao, I've seen similar stautes of Mao in storefronts in Chinatown Dundas/Spadina

Posted by karl at October 27, 2004 11:18 PM

No, no, no......not Mao, not Helmut Kohl.......it's Colonel Saunders, founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken fast-food chain, now known as 'KFC'.

Back quite a few years, they used to sell or give away Colonel Saunders banks for kids, which is probably what this is.

Great shot, though! What an eye Sam has!

Correcting the perspective was not a good decision for this photo, I think.
