Comments: zooming bike

I like this one a lot. I tried the exact same thing in Alphen on the Rhein, Netherlands and pulled off a decent shot.
nice.

I like it. Simply put its interesting and I like it. beautiful photo. I think the lack of sharpness and balance as you put it only adds to the motion of the photo. I am truly in awe of your skill. I like this one... yay... always worth the visit sam. this ones a cool action shot. You really are trying hard to include people lately arent you? good work... why arent you a professional photographer yet? think doing this as a job would destroy the fun and creative side of your hobby? ... art for enjoyments sake i guess is always best

Did you see the text on the white sign on the right?

@Abhimanyu Chirimar: So close, it's Alphen on the Rijn. Your spelling is german not dutch ;)

liking the introduction of people, albeit from behind. Nice you got your shop in too! is that a sex shop?

Posted by ptr at October 13, 2004 06:50 AM

ok, i was going to explain but this is too much fun watching you guys speculating about the SAM sign. (ptr: don't you wish ;-))

Why no helmet?? Hope you ride with one Sam, esp on Younge Street. Although it has been about 2 years since I was last in Toronto, it is remembered as a busy road.

it doesn't matter if its not sharp nor straight, it a very nice photo! for some reason i just really like it. i think it's cause it's night and she's just riding her bike like nothing. seems all solitary but she's not because it's in the city :) cool shot

Posted by lily at October 13, 2004 07:53 AM

this shot is as imbalanced as my name!

Sam, please tell. How did the story end? Did you catch her? Did she turn out to be the love of your life?

Posted by Kevin at October 13, 2004 10:23 AM

nice photos. I hope you'll visit my photoblog

Why do you have such a rigid definition of what a good photograph is that you feel the need to emphasize that you *know* it's not clear, etc. like anybody with any sense would give a shit?

It's a fantastic photo. It's unclear because you were in motion. It captures. That's what a photograph does. When you try to make it hit some artificial standard(and we're not talking about commercial work), then you're looking at it all wrong.

Love this shot. I'd like to see more "human" shots like it.

this shot seriously made me dizzy...

i love it! the angle just makes it even better, like a high speed bike chase (which it was :P)

Posted by ericville at October 13, 2004 04:42 PM

i think it is a very cool shot... it has an awesome sense of movement, you feel like going fordward if you see the blurry edges.... cool cool cool

Posted by mariel at October 13, 2004 05:39 PM

Yes, that's a really nice one ! just easy and natural…sometimes it's nice to shoot streets with motion, just as they are…

alright ill give the secret away about the store. SAM is a music store located on yonge street in Toronto. It is better known as SAM the record man. It is a very famous landmark in Toronto. This one is coincidence fokes, though im sure Sam must like the name of this store.

Great shot, full of spontaneity.

The sense of movement does give that "dizzy" feel just like the concert hall aerial shot from the CN Tower previous.
The mix of lomo, character study, macro, architecture and weather shots remind me of my time in Toronto and my lack of photo memories.

wait... is the girl on the bike the same girl whose shoulder you took a photo over as she read a book before? is this your friend or family member?

Posted by scott at October 18, 2004 12:07 AM

okay, but this is south of gerrard, on yonge, not north ;)
