I 'd like to contact you by email.
can i have your email address?
Since it is abandoned, how did you get in? Nice capture of the shadows coming from the boards on the window.
Posted by Robin at October 5, 2004 03:29 AMNice atmosphere. People are supposed to get better in a place like this, it's enough to drive you nuts.
Posted by Henk Bakker at October 5, 2004 07:19 AMhi sam..i know you have been posting these pictures for a while but i was always curious, did you change any of the objects positions in these pictures?
Posted by brenda at October 5, 2004 07:41 AMMaybe not the wallpaper I would use in a psych ward, but maybe it's just me. Great shot. I love the reflected lighting bounced off the floor.
Posted by Houser at October 5, 2004 07:52 AMThe wallpaper is so bad, even decay won't look at it!
Posted by Re-Pete at October 5, 2004 08:01 AMHA. I was just in that room on Sunday.
Posted by photojunkie at October 5, 2004 09:16 AMit looks lyke the window has bucked teeth.
Posted by chemical imbalance at October 5, 2004 09:18 AMabsolutely amazing shot. I love such places for foto strolls. Unfortunately there are not too many around me. Anyway this shot is really wonderful capturing the sense of abandonment
Posted by Liisa at October 5, 2004 09:28 AMI love the texture on the ceiling and the lighting. Scary wallpaper, indeed.
But I keep being drawn back to the 'Walkman Brothers' photo from two days ago. It's very, very compelling.
Posted by Kathy at October 5, 2004 11:29 AMcreepy, creepy, creepy... like a scene out of Session 9
Posted by mockingbird at October 5, 2004 11:32 AMfreaky ceiling.. it almost looks like albino bats are clinging to it. great exposure on this photo. the natural light through the window is key.
Posted by gleek at October 5, 2004 11:52 AMmockingbird... you took the thought out of my mouth...
Posted by Janine at October 5, 2004 12:23 PMWonderful shot. I find it mildly amusing that my first thought was "Whoa, that wallpaper would be enough to make a sane person crazy.."
Beautiful. I recently made your photo page my homepage, and I'm glad I did! Your pictures are great every day...keep it up! thanks
Posted by K at October 5, 2004 01:24 PMAt first, I thought this was a flipped (180) photo... but then I scroll down and get an even bigger surprise. Very nice composition... interesting lighting. Great shot as always Sam.
Posted by Jessyel Ty Gonzalez at October 5, 2004 01:52 PMYou just can't stop posting from that place, can you? I've said it before, I'll say it again: your brilliant!
Getting so many good photos from the same place..it is just amazing. Great work, Sam!
I agree about the ceiling, it looks kind of nice. As if it has ivy creeping all over it.
Posted by Edwinek at October 5, 2004 04:14 PMVery nice. I love places like this to photograph
Posted by Nancy at October 5, 2004 06:25 PMI find the photo is blalance and on a asthetic point of view a very good one. However the room itself radiates a history of suffering that struck me from the moment i saw it. The dispare of that place reaches out in a omonious and horribly depressing way. I get a sort of clostraphobic fear of that place at the mere sight of it that is a kin to sight of a dungeon torture room, yet somehow this place seems worse. It's more incideous in the way it once entrapped and stole away the lives of countless people.
Well taken photo, but my distaste for that room does not allow me to enjoy it. Once again a gripping and moving photo, but the movement for me is a desire to leave.
Let's host a Halloween Party there. Weeeeeeeeeee!
Posted by Boreo at October 5, 2004 09:53 PMAnother reason why wallpaper is evil! Great shot!
Posted by T at October 6, 2004 02:22 AMufff!!! without words. the room looks like isolate place with horrible feelings lived inside!!

OMG, out of all your Whitby shots, I think this one is my favorite. Although I am lurking from Bloglines everyday, I don't leave comments very often. But this one just kept me wanting to come back and tell you how much I like it. I absolutely love the green of the wall and the light. I am planning on going there some time soon before the winter comes. I need something to get me out of my apparent sanity! LOL
Anyway, I would also be interested in your answer about moving objects before taking a picture.
Posted by Riri at October 6, 2004 11:39 AMI wish we all had an discarded mental hospital to play in, fantastic shot. I actually enjoy all the posts of this place from the various bloggers located in southern Ontario. Im jealous big time!
