Comments: white to blue sky

Beautiful beautiful sky!

The horizon isn't quite horizontal, or is it just me? It's early and I need some coffee, but this is a nice start of the day. Thanks!

The red and yellow colours of the buildings and the street level contrast with the blue of the sky excellently. I like how it all comes together into the bright white light at the focal point. its a living colour wheel. P.S. This was a treat for a fellow Torontian now living and working in japan. I love the photos of my home city. they let me know how things are going back home.

Perhaps a bit too 'Photoshoppy' with the sky - the midranges don't quite match up with the lighting featured below and in the buildings. Still, great color as usual.

You boosted the contrast and saturation didn't you? Awesome end result.

This shot has great compostition. The guy right in the centre in the white t-shirt really makes the photo, for me, anyway.

it's funny, some people are wearing short sleeves and some have winter jackets on!!!

dude, you should see it in Helsinki! Our sun is officially down at 18:54 this week... Beautiful shot as usual, but special because I am a SUCKER for any photos with street-side hotdog vendors! In Toronto their wares are dusted with crack.

Posted by johanna at October 1, 2004 08:54 AM

WOW - what a cool picture. The buildings make this picture for me, but the sky is absolutely beautiful.

Oooooh, nothing like a Toronto "Crackdog"

Geezzz Sam!! You've done it again! This one goes into my "Sam's Folder" so that I may look at it again, and again. You have totally captured the essence of an Indian Summer evening! Thanks.

I agree with whoever said it was too photoshoppy. it's like sci-fi as opposed to, realistic pic.
and it has been pretty warm in the day, cold in the mornings/evenings.. the smart people wear layers.

I was driving home near Lakeshore/Parkside at that time and thought about stopping to take a photo of the skyline towards the west.

Thing about that time of day is, you only have about 10-15 minutes at most to work with before the sun dips to far below the horizon to make a good picture.

Posted by Chris at October 1, 2004 11:40 AM

It looks like a rendered 3D scene -- unreal colors and lighting. Is that good or bad? You be the judge.

Really, really beautiful!

One of the reasons I love your site so much, apart from blowing me away every day with each new post, is how nostalgic it makes me to look at the city I called home for 13 years. I especially like the ones from U of T campus, where I had the best years of my life and this one brings so many memories as I used to work in that building on the left right before I decided to quit and start a new life in the U.S. Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane...

thats what you get for leaving!

I think the photo is tilted? Am I the only one who notices that?

Posted by morcker at October 1, 2004 05:50 PM

Very nice shot, especially the colors!

Posted by Philippe K. at October 1, 2004 06:57 PM

nothing quite like a photoshopped image! =(

Posted by switch at October 1, 2004 09:44 PM

That's a lot of fun. It's all about that building on the left, and that kid in the white T-shirt staring back at you.

Posted by Seth Thomas Rasmussen at October 1, 2004 11:29 PM

Is this across the street from Marche restaurant?

BTW, the buildings are vertically squared. The earth is tilted. This allows melted snow and rain
to run off the sidewalk into the storm drains.

Well I dig it. Startling light, nice details. A few areas are a little oversaturated, but I don't mind it. It looks deliberate to me. I really like the lights in the office windows. To me images like this are about catching a vibe of a place at a certain time of day. I think you convey that well.

at the end, i think it's a good image. toronto:)
