whoa...awesome...think it might be better in black and white?

Posted by dylan at August 23, 2004 01:47 AM

That looks eerie. The colours are superb.

Forget about the 7AM issue and let's concentrate on the Toronto issue. I start to like Toronto, even only from your pictures and because of the famous CN tower. I've seen so many pictures so far...
Also, lot of blogers are from Toronto, so I imagine this keeps you in shape (fighting the competition) and it is a real proof that that place is an inspiring one.

that nifty black-and-white hover then color then hover html code will do to compare in b&w.

as it is...i love it. as i mentioned, toronto is a photoblogger-friendly place. first, you must have talent like yours sam.

Beautiful. I love the city in the morning.

Posted by cmb at August 23, 2004 07:22 AM

hm, the nice weather seems to be another reason.

2 blocks south of there, is where I work. :|

In fact, some co-workers came by my desk as I had this page open and suggested we hit Quiznos for lunch. :D

Sort of a "28 Days Later" Type shot.

Nice colours.

Posted by Peter at August 23, 2004 09:49 AM

i love the contrast between the buildings and the sky. the colors are excelent! how did you make them so bright?

Posted by Tanya at August 23, 2004 09:52 AM

I work right on the SE corner of King+Dufferin. The Marketing Store. So I see this view every day.

What this photo does not capture is how run down this neighbourhood is. During the day, you can't walk 2 feet without being hit up for "spare change?" and the number of homeless/crazy people just standing around is an embarassment to Toronto The Good.

Take the same picture at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and let's do a comparison.

Beautiful photograph. Way to capture a city while the rest of the people are sleeping!

You captured the web of TTC wires really well. As for getting up early, I find that's when I get the best shots. :)

Posted by kendall at August 23, 2004 11:09 AM

Look at the wires, fencing up the sky, preventing it from pouring down the pure blue. And the ground; seems wounded and scratched. It is a beautifully harsh image of urban life. Colors are amazing. Nice shot.

Is that what the world looks like at 7am? It's been so long since I've been up at the hour of the day. Who knew? Nice shot though, I like how the streetcar lines reinforce the symmetry of the picture.

Posted by Andrew at August 23, 2004 11:48 AM

i love this early emptiness, and the tramlines dissecting the morning sky: sometimes a lack of busy-ness allows you to see angles, patterns, and colour. it would be worth getting up with the birds, but was there coffee available?

Posted by lynn at August 23, 2004 12:43 PM

........seconds before being run over from behind by a streetcar..........

Posted by chemical imbalance at August 23, 2004 01:40 PM

Hey I've seen that intersection before. (I've only been to Toronto a handful of times in my life :))

Good composition.

Posted by miklos at August 23, 2004 02:48 PM

You did look behind you before taking the shot?

Posted by nantel at August 23, 2004 09:27 PM

eerie. the ghost-town feel and yet the contradiction of the bright blue sky and the saturation is very compelling. also, nice composition.

Posted by Emily at August 23, 2004 10:19 PM

Hey sam that's right near where I work. (as you know). In fact I ate at that quiznos not 4 hours ago. Nothing like a late night sub to keep the juices flowing.

Great shot.

I was c\gonna make a 28 days later comment as well, except in grand canadian style this would be a cleaner, less trashed version of the movie.

Posted by photojunkie at August 24, 2004 11:47 AM

Whoa! That looks like a cyclist's nightmare! Add in a little bit of rain, some cars, trolleys, pedestrians and watch out! After you've fallen once on rails you're forever gun shy of them.

Posted by Hans at August 26, 2004 06:13 PM

really cool! don't make it b&w this colors are the best... blue sky contrast with sort of red buildings.. cool. burger king... cool

Posted by mariel at August 26, 2004 11:57 PM

been there many times.. photo is great.. cant say i recognised before that streetcar and powerlines cluttering the sky could also be beautiful.. who'd have thunk it...
