My first question: why? Are you safe doing this? Do you feel 'lucky'? Great photo.

Posted by Mando Gomez at July 5, 2004 01:34 AM

Are you nuts?

Posted by bazlit at July 5, 2004 02:12 AM

cool shoes! heh heh.

Posted by sippler at July 5, 2004 02:14 AM

NO! NO! just take a shot. please, don't do that.

Posted by Roozbeh at July 5, 2004 02:40 AM

Hmm, I took a shot like this once:

I'm guessing you're situation was sort of like mine ... otherwise you're one brave guy!!!!

Posted by legofish at July 5, 2004 02:52 AM

your shoes in the pic made all the difference in this otherwise plain high shot.

I put up your pic at my blog, with the due credits and links back to your pages. I hope you don't mind.

>I could never take pictures like this. I have height phobia!!

Don't worry you haven't got vertigo

Posted by Richard Earney at July 5, 2004 04:00 AM

Sometimes I wonder how you can find all these colors in one frame. Hmm...perhaps if I knew...

By the way, from what I see you are almost standing on the center of your feet, which is (a little bit) dangerous in this case, considering the depth of the image!

Posted by Roozbeh at July 5, 2004 04:16 AM

Nice pic!
There must have been a bar at waist-height, I guess...

Posted by BOK at July 5, 2004 04:36 AM

very cool photos!, check my photoblog out at http://matt.blogs.com

Look! Little ants driving cars!

Nice shoes. I would have thrown up on mine if I was in the same position.

Posted by Hamish at July 5, 2004 05:53 AM

Amazing sharpness, given the 1/30 shutter speed. You must have been standing rock still :).

Posted by Nick at July 5, 2004 08:57 AM

Man you have courage. I don't think I would ever take a picture like that. The picture is wicked, the fact that your feet are in it make all the difference. Did any of the drivers get out of their car and shout "DON'T DO IT!".

Posted by Krishna at July 5, 2004 09:47 AM

I'm feeling dizzy! -- Nice shot... :-)

Posted by bob at July 5, 2004 10:18 AM

My guess is that the shoes are empty and placed for effect. Nice touch with the pants though.

Thought that it was my apartment for a moment at Finch and Sentenial, North York. It also has 23 floors - creepy.

vertigo-time: i may not sleep tonight.
i love the symmetry though..

Posted by lynn at July 5, 2004 01:12 PM

It freaks me out just to look at this pic. Nice idea.

why do people always whine about how your pictures make them dizzy? i'll never understand that.

i agree i think the shoes were placed there

Posted by chemical imbalance at July 5, 2004 02:28 PM

Awesome picture. When you want to get a good shot, you'll do anything to get it. It's a passion for photography (just a comment to all the "are you crazys" people posted up there).

Posted by Kelly at July 5, 2004 02:42 PM

Why???? The life is wonderful! Your pictures too!!

Posted by Herbert at July 5, 2004 04:29 PM

Campers? They must be campers. I've got the darker version of the shoes.

Posted by erik at July 5, 2004 05:16 PM

Well... I have some new ideas to try out now. ;)

Posted by Mozammel at July 5, 2004 07:28 PM

just tell me something. after the shot, on which of the 3 cars did u start peeing? i'd go for the purple one. it looks more demanding.

Posted by amir at July 5, 2004 07:32 PM

free fall......bungee jumping...... a shot.....shoes...........i luvvvvvvv it anyway.

Posted by mememe at July 5, 2004 07:58 PM

Love the composition on this one.

Posted by Kemp at July 5, 2004 09:39 PM

when the pic was loading and all i see was the tree i thought it looked really cool, but when i saw the shoes i changed my mind... fsck the trees. you must have a lot of guts to do that.

didn't anyone showed up screaming "don't jump"?

Posted by mariel at July 5, 2004 10:35 PM

tell me you are against a waist-height fense... or you would be a rather brave man!!

Posted by Qiang at July 5, 2004 11:07 PM

this a nice spin on the "foot" shot that i see often. love it.

Posted by alexis at July 6, 2004 01:03 AM

Speechless... Wow.

Posted by Jessyel Ty Gonzalez at July 6, 2004 01:15 AM

ohh... so scary! (nice shoes, btw! hehe)

Posted by peace at July 6, 2004 07:08 AM

Awesome perspective! I know that I definitely would have had issues taking a photo like this! :)

Posted by Andrea at July 6, 2004 09:36 AM

Hope the old Whitby psych hospital didn't inspire this!!

Posted by Urbancharm at July 6, 2004 02:43 PM

my stomach just turned, I've got high anxiety. I get dzzy standing on a chair.

Posted by frommel at July 6, 2004 04:43 PM

Very nice shot - the shoes do make it. I'm guessing, however, that you did not risk life and limb to take the shot as others above have suggested. Since the title says you are on a balcony, Can I assume that your feet were just sticking out from under the fence? Even so, I have balconies and most likely would not have been able to stomach that shot. And if not, my lord...

Posted by jamie at July 6, 2004 05:05 PM

What a view, you got guts I could not have taken that pic

Posted by chigirl at July 6, 2004 05:11 PM

Look, it's a great picture. I really really like it.

But what's all that nonsense about jumping and dare? The guy is standing on a solid concrete floor, and leaning against a fence, an example of which you can see on the balcony below him. He just didn't include it in the picture. He's safer than some people are in traffic.

For crying out loud.

Posted by anonymous coward at July 8, 2004 01:09 PM

Yikes - Don't jump.
We love ya!

Posted by kara at July 8, 2004 01:12 PM

Don't you think these are nice shoes? Scuffed, yeah, but hip. I'm hip, man, or, um, dogg. You know I'm black, right? Yeah, as the ace of spades. I guess that's where the term comes from, spade. I never heard it myself, growing up among millionaires. You got the money, my dad said, you become honorary white. I guess I wouldn't know; I don't know anything about it.

Down there in the pink sport is my girlfriend, Cam. But before you think, oh yeah, pink sport, blond bomb, cotton candy, just so you know, she hates that car. Her dad makes her drive it. She's an artist, painter. She steps out of it dressed in black, white thighs coming through torn tights, t-shirt faded and frayed, and everyone double takes. Then they see me hanging on her tit and everyone triples. Not a word though.

She's coming up for some luncheonette. That's what we call it. Others might say fish and salami, playing scissors, 69. Can you believe it, two years and I haven't put it to her? She's scared, of the Big P. Me too. My dad said, you get that skinny thing knocked up, she's apt to fall over from the extra weight. You'd be falling, too, he said. And fast. To the bottom, he said. Understand?

I do. Understand, that is. I understand that I go to school in a suit and tie. I understand that I don't bring Cam to our dinner parties, only to our hotel room, the clubs *way* downtown. I understand that I get a tooth pulled because its slants to the right. I understand that I e--nun--ci--ate. I understand.

She'll be here in a minute, Cam will. Better get off this ledge, get down, go make love to my girl. I better go inside and drink a beer, maybe two. Yeah I oughta.

Hey - is that on Forest Laneway? I used to live there, on the 22nd floor at no. 6. My view was of the RC School Board. Great pic!
