Why are these psych ward pictures so f*cking cool?? They're all so tragically beautiful, such awesome detail, thats just my two cents.

I assume this is a long exposure like some of the others.

Holy (cussword). This photo should be famous. Seriously incredible shot.

I love it when the photographer is a ghost in his own picture.

this is amazing, one of my fav photos by you!

Creepy. The building looks like it's in agony akin to what its patients must have felt -- like somehow it's now reflecting all the energy it was exposed to.
Did you find any meds on the floor?

good work, Sam.
i love the abandoned places. make a habit out of visiting them -- please! for my sake!

Where are you going honey? Just to the psychiatric hospital.

One of the best infiltration pictures I've ever seen. I'm jealous. Makes all my shots look like crap. Maybe the trick is to go during the daylight?

Speachless....

The new Whitby Mental Health Centre is beautiful. Too bad you could not get some pics of it. I knew many collegues who worked in these older buildings. My son is now a patient of the new hospital which is on the same grounds. These old buildings really should come down.

This is wonderful, not least because the distorted reflection perfectly suits the mood of the place. You look fragile, dented and not quite wholly present; a particularly apposite visual metaphor for the lost souls who previously inhabited this place.

I have a question Sam, I'd appreciate it if you posted an answer. Are all these Whitby shots from one shoot, or do you keep going back and taking more? They're my favorite of all of your stuff. Other than that, I really appreciate your site. Thanks for the inspiration.

just a word of caution, yes beautiful shots but that place looks like it has peeling lead paint and i'm sure there's asbestos around. whenever visiting such places, try not to disturb anything. happy hunting.
