Love the perspective, and the sense of size. It says 'old Amsterdam', but then Amsterdam has always been a mix of the old and the new =) Prachtig Lynn!

love this photo, it gives the sense of standing on the bottom and looking up perfectly.

Nice... reminds me of a canal ride in Amsterdam oh so long ago. All those hooks at the top of every house. Apparently all furniture used to go threw the windows. Am presuming this too is an old house and some furniture raising is going on?

@Saira: These buildings are old warehouses, for storing merchandise and so. But indeed almost every house in Amsterdam still has a hook (also the new houses), because the staircaises are too small for moving big furniture

and, for the same reason, many of these lovely tall homes and warehouses lean slightly forward: so that the goods hoisted by the hooks will avoid being damaged - or damaging - the facades. thank you all for the feedback, and thanks too - goes without saying - to sam for the invitation!

The rainbowflag represents the gay people all over the world.
Amsterdam is the gay capitol of Europe.
The city council wanted the flag to be forbidden in Amsterdam but they came back on that issue.

The hooks on the houses are obliged by the amsterdam housinglaw and are indeed for getting fourniture inside.

Some people think that the leaning forward of the (ware)houses also keeps them dry in times of rain.

greetings Marcel
