Comments: corridor through glass

Wow - terrific shot!

Posted by Emily at April 25, 2004 01:12 AM

what a lonely place

Posted by Alex Mitchell at April 25, 2004 01:14 AM

Great shot. Like the shot of the falling apart and broken window/room and that it was taken in a once psychiatric facility.

Posted by Chris at April 25, 2004 01:19 AM

i wouldn't say lonely...desolate maybe.

neat shot though.

Posted by switch at April 25, 2004 01:20 AM

Looks like a place with a lot of history. Very nice depth of field :)

Posted by Mike at April 25, 2004 01:55 AM

yes, it is mysterious, especially when you read the description. Has a story inside.

Posted by soheila at April 25, 2004 03:40 AM

Really enjoy the DoF on this one. I like how you focused the detail on the window and not the hallway. Knowing this is an abandoned pysychiatric facility makes it perfect...

From the eyes of a broken window.

Posted by TridenT at April 25, 2004 04:49 AM

Nice shot! but...I think your favorite 'Warm tone' doesn't work out for this scene, If I were you I'd try a high contrasted 'Arkham Asylum'ish style! :-)

It's haunting to think of what might have come through that window. It was most likely some petty vandal although Hollywood puts other thoughts in my mind.

Posted by Chris at April 25, 2004 08:31 AM

Great shot! so you finaly got to check the place out. You know I would love to see the other shots you took. Very creepy place.

Posted by sigma at April 25, 2004 09:20 AM

Good shot man

Posted by vg at April 25, 2004 09:55 AM

looks like all the patients broke out.

creepy.

Posted by Emily at April 25, 2004 10:02 AM

This is so weird... We must have bumped into each other without knowing. I was there yesterday too with some friends taking shots! What a small world...

Great site BTW, can't stop visiting everyday for something new.

Posted by Hugo at April 25, 2004 10:31 AM

Wow, having "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" thoughts...

Posted by Emma at April 25, 2004 10:43 AM

Great shot!

Looks like those wires in the windows dont do much to keep the window from breaking and letting people in. ;)

Posted by Raffi at April 25, 2004 11:42 AM

Looks like it could be used as a POSTER for
the next "IDENTITY" thiller by JAMES MANGOLD!
***Great SHOT***...........!!! ;0)

Posted by p23e at April 25, 2004 11:49 AM

This picture drew me through. I felt myself pulled through the crack in the glass as it scrapped by sides. Powerful!

Posted by Cliffique at April 25, 2004 12:14 PM

A sobering symbol of the "shattered lives" that former residents must now live without the community healthcare support that was the promise of so many politicians. Is "outside" any better than "inside" ? I propose to include this shot (with due acknowledgement to Sam & blogsite) in my scientific presentations on various mental health issues.

Posted by RT at April 25, 2004 12:37 PM

What hammer you break the window, I like the freshness of those glass hanging and dripping...

Posted by joey at April 25, 2004 01:16 PM

Excellent shot Sam! Shattered non-shatterable glass, I don't have words to describe how cool and original this is.

In other news, are you going to this? http://www.contactphoto.com/

Posted by Lorin Halpert at April 25, 2004 03:40 PM

Whoever said "lonely" nailed it. This photo breaks my heart, and the "warm colors" another comment didn't like actually make it for me, the dichotomy of the sunshiney yellows and the starkness of the glass' edges.

Posted by gwen at April 25, 2004 03:41 PM

Cuckoo's nest jumped to my mind too...of course I was in a stage production of it in November, so that might be a bit of it :) (i was turkle, the alcholic janitor)

Posted by Mike at April 25, 2004 04:54 PM

I recommend Rockwood Asylum for the Criminally Insane, in Kingston ON. A bit challenging to get in undetected, but well worth the look - it's two hundred years old. I found a smashed-up old dresser, a picture of Jesus and a room filled entirely with keys!

Posted by Lith at April 25, 2004 06:18 PM

don't have much to add after the comments that have already been made, but...definately one of my favorites

Posted by josh at April 25, 2004 07:44 PM

Too many of my shots like this have come out with the reverse focus: blurred foreground, focused background. Nice shock here, especially with the presumed violence on the glass.

Posted by Frank at April 25, 2004 09:51 PM

Very good shot !

Posted by Jules at April 26, 2004 06:00 AM

I sure would like to see more shots of this place!

Posted by BradKnapp at April 26, 2004 09:22 AM

I disagree with the person who said the warm tones don't work here. I think they're very evocative. The "cold blues abandoned building" feel has been done to death. Choosing to go with a brighter feel changes that from "same old" to interesting.

Another great one.

I love this picture! It can represent so much!To me though it represents how broken and empty life can be just like the window in this picture, the fact that it was once a psychiatric center also represents how troubling life can be.

Posted by Kate at April 27, 2004 09:23 AM

extremely great photo

Posted by andyclymer at April 27, 2004 09:53 PM

Wow, a very powerful shot, and I agree that the shallow depth of field and warm lighting works beautifully. Bravo!!

Posted by Judith Polakoff at April 28, 2004 10:52 AM

ok now we know........the patients killed the staff and ran off.........what are u doing around 'ABANDONED PSYCHIATRIC FACILITIES"???

Posted by TJ at April 28, 2004 11:51 AM

Guau, i like it! i´ve seen a picture like this, but in B/W on the site "abandonedplaces.com" it deserves a visit.

AS SECURITY AT THE ROCKWOOD ASYLUM WE WILL BE WATCHING CLOSELY FOR ANYONE TRYING TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE BUILDING ..IT IS ROUTINELY PATROLLED

¡Muy buena, Felicidades! Es indescriptible la sensación que provoca en el espectador.

Posted by Federico Sanchez at May 18, 2004 09:49 PM

Love it.

Posted by Elias at July 1, 2004 08:10 PM

Sam, this is just so cool! Could I post it in my blog & of course, give your site kudos while doing so (i.e. want to show an example of your work, 'coz I've already raved about it on my blog)?

I haven't seen all of your photos yet, but I would have to say this is my favorite so far because of it's poignancy. Thanks again for sharing these photos with us!
