Oh cool, I had never thought of using them as textures. What a cool idea. If any 3d artists *do* use them as textures, I'd love to see the turnout!

Memorable shot. Might sound crazy, but it has some “comic” scent to it!

Excellent, thanks! There's been numerous times where I've thought about using some of these awesome shots as textures. The exposure and light balance of them is so even it'd be perfect to use as a 3D texture. So far I haven't used any of them, mainly because I just haven't happened to be working on anything that coincided, but I'll be sure to tell you when I do! :)

Call me old fashioned but I would hope that the 3d artists who can't be assed to get out there and take their own source photographs would actually buy them from photographers. After all, you're getting paid for your 3d work aren't you? Seriously, if you take your own photos you're going to learn something- even if you do know everything- and get a little exercise to boot.

Sam,
I love your work! This shot typified the "windows into your soul" expression for me. I see a stoic "face" worn down by time...and the various "locks" preventing anyone from venturing inside. But the door is betrayed by it's eyes(windows), and it reveals the depth lurking deep withing begging for exploration.

Woah... I just thought it was a bitchin Nautical Door. Way to read into things Andy.

Keep up the good work Sam.

You're right, of course G, it is a classic appropritaion debate (well, since the 80's at least.) I didn't quite make my point, as I was aiming more for the "get off your butt and do this yourself" approach, and don't just steal an image while surfing through lunch, that sort of thing. Appropriation is so bloody passé.

What makes visits to the visual diary at WVS so worthwhile is that it IS fresh. And personal. And we learn a lot. And it's free.

It reminds me of the adventure games that you have to find the combination of the locks to get in ("Myst" kind of games). I like this picture alot!
