Posted by TJ at March 9, 2004 03:15 AMWow!!! It was worth the trouble... Great shot!
Posted by Rob at March 9, 2004 04:21 AMI know the feeling. Some people asked me if I was looking for drowners when I stood staring at the canal for many minutes last weekend. (Although actually, I think they just wanted to see if I was too drunk to answer.) Your shot was great, mine wasn't, though. :-)
Posted by Olf at March 9, 2004 05:00 AMWell worth all the trips up and down the escalator, excellent picture ....
Posted by james m at March 9, 2004 05:38 AMSam, you're a kid who wants to play with the escalator, aren't you ? :p
*laughs crually*
Posted by Tatou at March 9, 2004 06:05 AMgreat shot! you've really got a sense for angles; who cares if people think you're crazy;)
Posted by fredrik at March 9, 2004 06:36 AMI'll chime in here with a Xerox comment: "Great shot!"
Posted by Jeremiah at March 9, 2004 06:58 AMIndeed you are crazy! this shot is very uncommon and fictional.
Posted by ila at March 9, 2004 07:15 AMHee, I wish I'd been there to see you go up and down and up and down. Lovely Star article, by the way. Your story is quite compelling. Will you give away which subway? I can't quite tell what it is, and now I'm curious.
Posted by Sage Tyrtle at March 9, 2004 09:21 AMMany times I've dreamt of climbing street lights, hanging from windows, etc. to get good pictures. This is kinda like that, only less vertigo. :D
Posted by Matt at March 9, 2004 09:25 AMVery deep! I love these almost abstract shots.
Posted by Edwinek at March 9, 2004 09:56 AMWow. Btw, exactly what is this a view of? I've been up many escalators in subways... and can't imagine what structure would this be. Were you looking up or down, I wonder? Sideways??
Posted by Maribel at March 9, 2004 10:24 AMI recognise the situation. This shot was definitely worth being stared at. (I've been stared at for much lousier pictures)
I wonder what exactly is what. Glencairn you said? :-)
Posted by Peter in Toronto at March 9, 2004 11:43 AMThat's how you know you are doing things right, people look at you like you are crazy.
Posted by Matt Shadinger at March 9, 2004 04:19 PMVery powerful shot. Desolate infinity.
Posted by qOJ at March 9, 2004 04:22 PMI was wondering what is the subject until I read your text. Is that one of the fun part of photography? Keep on good work!
Posted by Yi at March 9, 2004 04:51 PMnice ;-)
Posted by Allein at March 9, 2004 05:52 PMI too was being stared at as some wierdo while taking pictures today in Boston.
Posted by rob at March 9, 2004 07:03 PMI LOVE that you feature so many places I know. I moved away from TO over 2 years ago and just discovered your site.
Thank you for keeping me so beautifully, poetically connected to my hometown and other new places/spaces.
I love your artful capture of what I remember -- and the change since I've been away. Thank you!
Posted by mary in ottawa at March 9, 2004 08:36 PMI suddently had a vision of the Millenium Falcon squeezing through that space. I need some anti-nerd pills.
Posted by nantel at March 9, 2004 08:56 PMThis is an amazing photo! very nice...
Posted by arie *ideal impact at March 10, 2004 03:15 AMCan someone explain what exactly the picture is of? It is cool and all but I don't know what I am looking at.
Posted by Chakadrum at March 11, 2004 01:39 AMAbsolutely Impressive!
God bless your blue eyes,Sam!
this shot somehow remindes me of Hichcock's Vertigo, don't know why but it does.
Great job..
Watch out for the escalator!!
i like.

3.the colors!nobody tells that it's great too...
You have the eye I always wish I had.
You see right the kind of scenes I am always looking for!
simply amazing!
how many times did u go up and down?
Posted by CJ at March 15, 2004 04:03 PMI instantaeously thought of an image I felt once of what was mentioned here before ("desolate infinity") Metisculously perfect, and perfection in pattern. Fantastic.
Posted by christopher at March 15, 2004 04:40 PMto Chakadrum; and all others who are mystified as to what you are looking at.
It is the concrete cross beams supporting the roof and more cross beams at a lower level, closer to track level. At the very center of the shot you see another escalator at the far end of the station. The camera was held horizontaly. I got vertigo when I first looked at this shot until I was able to figure out the perspective.
One of my favs!
Posted by gus at March 16, 2004 03:42 PMhorizontal lines give a strange feeling...
Posted by dam at March 16, 2004 05:07 PMthis picture made me think of music (trance) the progressive rythem of song making grove. line = wave
