That's stunning. Not just the image, but the fact that Niagara Falls freezes.

Were there many honeymooners freezing their butts off on this Valentine's day?

Posted by nantel at February 16, 2004 05:57 AM

Absolutely stunning shot.
Would love to get a hires!

Nice, a new background for work ;-)

The scale of this shot is amazing. There's a very "Ansel Adams" feel to it -- as though you were the only person in the world to witness this. Kind of like "if water falls and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

I agree - Sam, you have really outdone yourself this time. If it's any consolation for the temps, the shot looks like one of your best. Thanks as well for technique update (you KNOW I'm always looking at technique). I as well would LOVE to have this bad boy as a desktop shot.

Warm tone and mixing with the b/w? Sounds like a long winded way to turn down the saturation ;) .

But anyway a very good photo, I like it, the ice looks "cool". The editing makes it perfect, great job.

Great shot! And what a great idea about combining color and black and white! I'm going to give that a shot!

Excellent location Sam [that being the angle at the far end, not just Niagara itself].
I also love the fact you tell people your magic tricks :)
And for all this photo's splendor...you have too many excellent & unique shots to ever deduce what your 'best' is (particularly when life is still ongoing & in motion)
Hope you & your camera managed to warm up.

can't leave this one without a comment ! Who's up for walking on the ice ??? :D we might survive

I feel that the warmth of the bottom left color photo captures the truly beautiful aspects surrounding that area. Don't get me wrong, I love B+W photos, but there's just something amazing about the contrasting colors in the horizon and the beautiful red coming off the smoke. My fav is the color adjusted one on the bottom for this reason. Well done. :)

Sam, your pics are great. why human elements are so rare in them. feel like sth important is lacking.

Posted by soheila at February 17, 2004 12:23 AM

As always Sam an excellent picture....

I also like the colour pic with the adjusted levels.

Posted by james m at February 17, 2004 05:57 PM

Yeah I also like that bottom left photo. Excellent Job. I find that it is very good that you take photographs of your surroundings. I am one who feels that people are too overphotographed (many times in bad taste) It is liberating to see the architectural creations of humanity, and the creations of nature. Because they cannot harm us directly. We as humans are too cruel sometimes. If we reflect on nature we can admire the potential that we have.

Keep up the excellent work.
