definitely bw !
I don't care for the pink plates and the color of the tables.

great shot! I really Like the BW version.

black-and-white is likely intended to convey the joy of
spring and sun and food and beeing together.

colour... otherwise I wouldn't have know how cool the blue bricks look on that patio

B&W for me.
It would be interesting to understand what are the common technical parameters (apart from individual preference) that go into this decision.

Colour. The pinks and greens and blues convey Spring to me.

Thanks for the Feedly recommendation. I was starting to panic over losing Google Reader.

For me, it's B/W all the way. The colors are strong but I find that they add little more than a distraction. What's wonderful here is the unusual angle, not the mishmash of neon plates and bright shirts.

Colour for sure! It is spring :)

I saw the BW one and thought - what a GREAT photo! Then I scrolled down and saw the POP of colour jump out at me from the screen!! Well done, Sam!

Instead of choosing BW or colour, I vote that Sam not retire! LOL

Both are great.

Color! It's beautiful!

Couleur!

I think the colour one is more appropriate for the "Spring" theme....but both shots are beautiful!

Colour! It's a plastic picnic!

I vote for the color. The black and white shot tends to smooth out the differences between the elements resulting in a unified feeling. In the color photo, there's a massive contrast between the plates and clothing, suggesting individuals coming together for a meal instead of a unified group. I do find the blue bricks in the border distracting however.

B&W. There's too much going on in the colour, fighting for your attention.

Thanks for the tip on Feedly

B&W. I find the green & pink plates distracting and the tomato jumps out in colour; the black and white allows the composition to hang together better.

B&W

my opinion :
it depends on ....
b+w concentrates to the centre (the togetherness).
color is more open, more alive, younger, more carefree.
hard choice, really.
it depends on what YOU want to convey...
YOU are the artist!
YOU are the "captain in command"!
and that is a lonesome job. allways in life!
but it pays off...
thank you for asking, Sam.
