Magnificent.

This flash rocks.

Posted by bali at January 4, 2004 04:23 AM

You are a freakin genuis!

Posted by webgard at January 4, 2004 05:07 AM

what is that strange building in the upper right corner. Looks wierd. Sportstadium?

Posted by frommel at January 4, 2004 05:45 AM

Flash thingy is very cool :D

Posted by Aeternus at January 4, 2004 06:28 AM

great shot! i like the magnifier, it uncovers a lot of detail you wouldn't otherwise know was captured. Did you entend to put it on all the photos? It might be kindof distracting if used on an image that didn't need it. Then again, maybe I'm just easily distracted :P

Posted by teofilstudios at January 4, 2004 09:11 AM

I don't like the flash magnifier; I'd prefer to just see the high-resolution image in my browser all at once... I guess I'm a purist :-)

Posted by Harald at January 4, 2004 09:22 AM

i'm afriad i have to vote no to the magnifier too.

Posted by marcus at January 4, 2004 09:33 AM

nice. i do like the magnifier, its a nice effect - but a link to the hi-res in adittion would be nice.

Posted by pacifico at January 4, 2004 09:58 AM

Frommel:

Yes, that weird building is a stadium, built for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. The tower was meant to be part of a system for a retractable roof, but it doesn't work...

http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/national/olympi.htm

I agree with the recent posters... the flash magnifier is a cool gadget, but I'd really rather just see the bigger image.

Posted by Andrew Spicer at January 4, 2004 10:16 AM

whoah. very cool!!

Posted by Jen at January 4, 2004 10:34 AM

C'mon folks !! doesn't this magnifier remind you of looking through binaculars ... it's really exciting in real life of course ! I had a telescope back in tehran .. you could spend hours chasing cars or pedestrians .
me : two thumbs up !

Posted by Behr.o0o.z at January 4, 2004 11:33 AM

the magnifier is a bit gimmicky. was cool for a bit, but then it kind of gets in the way of soaking in the entire image.

Posted by goateebird at January 4, 2004 11:37 AM

that's pretty cool! :)

the flash thing is something new and quiet cool :)

Posted by ecila at January 4, 2004 12:16 PM

there are lots of stuff on html like the magnifier thingie. there's a spotlight one that spotlights parts of the picture as ur mouse rolls over it :]

its nice. but yeah i prefer viewing the pics as a whole. but i guess for such a complicated picture like this. its nice to try to c if there are people changing in those windows. haha.

Posted by angela at January 4, 2004 12:16 PM

Great idea, great photo.

Posted by Todd at January 4, 2004 12:22 PM

i think it's BRILLIANT. wow.

Posted by lynn at January 4, 2004 12:52 PM

I like the idea, but at least the full-res photo as an alternative would be a lot better.
Great shot though.

Posted by Simon at January 4, 2004 03:02 PM

nice flash feature. but like the others, a high res pic would be best.

Posted by sush at January 4, 2004 04:27 PM

U bastard! :) ... more zooming power needed. show up us a 6MPx detail.

Posted by ila at January 4, 2004 06:51 PM

i love it

Posted by steph at January 4, 2004 08:20 PM

yeah the magnifier is cool but it does get in the way. maybe you can provide a magnifier on/off option?

Posted by Sharizal Shaarani at January 4, 2004 10:03 PM

i was hoping to see something in the windows of the apartment buildings. no such luck...pooey. no wait, theres waldo!

Posted by veritech pilot at January 4, 2004 11:33 PM

the magnifier is a cool toy and a nice bit of flash, but it gets in the way of viewing the image. a link to a hi-res copy would be welcome.

Posted by CPD at January 5, 2004 01:16 AM

Excellent use of technology.

Posted by Gordon at January 5, 2004 07:50 AM

such an awesome use of flash or technology in general. i agree with some others that a link to a high res in addition to this would be nice. And of course, great shot!

Posted by brenda at January 5, 2004 08:32 AM

Amazing shot. The flash stops me from being able to set it as my desktop though. :)

Posted by trent at January 5, 2004 09:59 AM

I really like the Flash magnifier. While I think I would get sick of it if it was used on every picture, this is a good application of it. Nice shot too, how did you know how long to expose it for? Are you happy with your DigReb? Mine gets delivered tomorrow!

Posted by BradKnapp at January 5, 2004 10:18 AM

I wouldn't want to see it for every picture, but for this one, it is super cool !

Posted by chris | photopix at January 5, 2004 02:45 PM

I love the flash magnifier. But I agree, the full size pic link would be cool too...

Posted by Ron at January 5, 2004 03:47 PM

I don't like this semi-fancy flash thing. Your site is a very great photo site. It's not necessary to put this cheesy trick.

Posted by s2i at January 5, 2004 03:54 PM

I like the magnifier, but I would prefer it if started completely outside of the photo, allow a full, unobscured view of the photo. If the magnifier could sit to the left or right of a photo, it could be the best of both worlds: allowing some people to use it and others to soak in the full image.

Posted by Mark Carey at January 5, 2004 04:49 PM

you can get a full unobscured view of the photo, just grab the very top bit of the magnifier, and drag it down towards the text which talks about the camera settings.

Posted by trent at January 5, 2004 05:37 PM

Very swanky...!

Posted by Xander at January 5, 2004 05:44 PM

I find the hand cursor gets in the way while dragging. Also, I wish the zoom box would be bigger - perhaps filling the entire frame.

Posted by Dan at January 6, 2004 05:55 PM

I'm going to have to vote "Yes" on the Flash addition. Lets you see detail you'd otherwise overlook and it's quite interesting. Should do it again ssometime.

Posted by Megan at January 7, 2004 01:40 AM

Answer to your question: I like the flash thing. Well with some pictures it doesn't make that much of a difference. I'd love to see the flash magnifier on 'tehran night'.

Posted by Vahid at January 7, 2004 09:57 AM

Brilliantly done.

Posted by beerzie boy at January 7, 2004 10:57 AM

Love the magnify glass. How'd you do that? I work in Flash but am not that talented. Beautiful photography.

Posted by Horniman at January 7, 2004 02:30 PM

wow..what can i say ? breath taking..

Posted by nilgoon at January 7, 2004 04:04 PM

Using magnifier for this shot was a clever idea! Please zoom more next time to see behind the windows as well:)

Posted by hadi at January 7, 2004 10:43 PM

Excellent trick. You should use it again....

Posted by Ainulindalė at January 8, 2004 10:02 AM

it's not the side i live!!!!:)
anyhow, the montreal stadium is more beautiful now, but i'm pretty sure you took some shots from the downtown highrises too at night, right? are you gonna post them up here as well?

Posted by ainp at January 8, 2004 03:27 PM

Looks beautiful...Wow...
Cole

Posted by Cole at January 9, 2004 01:18 AM

Quite an innovative and intriguing use of Flash. It would be even more spectacular if it magnified a little more, though....

Posted by matthew at January 9, 2004 08:13 AM

I cannot get enough of your work, I was shown your page by a friend about a month and a half ago and have been here every time I can remember to visit, I'm a 23yr old Hamiltonian/Mac student and you're very well liked by at least 5-6 of my friends (the one's who enjoy photography, at least) I love the work you do, thanks a lot.

Posted by Joe Monastero at January 14, 2004 09:06 AM

Hey dude, nice effect. Where can you get the code or instructions to do this?

Posted by James at January 14, 2004 09:53 AM

I love it. I love visiting your site as well. Thanks for the imagery and the twist on this picture.

Posted by Linda at January 15, 2004 06:24 AM

Easily the best use of Flash I have seen on web yet.

And yet I agree with the others about preferring a high res image in my window.

Keep thinking outside the square and keep taking magnificient photos!

Posted by seriocomic at January 16, 2004 07:15 AM

Thank you for beautiful, intelligent photography. An excellent fusion of technology and art. This is a wonderful shot of Montreal, but through your site you have also made me realize how beautiful Toronto can be if you take the time to stop and appreciate it.

Posted by Sarah at January 16, 2004 11:23 AM

Fantabulous !

Posted by Ganesh at January 18, 2004 04:11 AM

I like it! it's fun and helps me focus on such a sprawling image. Keep using it for pix like this...

Posted by Ann at January 18, 2004 09:03 PM

AWESOME!

please!

Posted by lulu at January 18, 2004 11:24 PM

I like the magnifier .
Thanks for the site as well.

Posted by Steven at January 20, 2004 03:46 AM

I like the magnifier.
Thanks for the pics.

Posted by Steven at January 20, 2004 03:49 AM

So very cool -- you're brilliant!

Posted by Kathleen Connally at January 23, 2004 09:54 AM

link to the hi-res would've been a wonderful addition. however, this magnifier flash effect is cool. would look nice as a splash layout, and using the magnifier to click to areas. hmmm.

Posted by shar at January 25, 2004 10:25 AM

This is beyond cool...and potentially very useful for our interpretation of microscopic images.

Posted by nantel at February 4, 2004 09:03 AM

Very effective the flash mag. But posting a lot of photos myself, and looking at others for hours on, I prefer larger resolution pictures.

I think I even spot my car on Mont-Royal.
Beau travail, continue.

Posted by Norm at February 10, 2004 07:09 PM

This is wonderful! :o

Posted by Stefano at February 13, 2004 08:13 AM

coooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!

Posted by blah at March 8, 2004 12:05 AM

This is very good idea. I like the magnifier.

Posted by aneta at April 2, 2004 09:47 AM

Love the flash thing. Wicked! Looking for more distance shots like this.

Peace

Posted by idleleaf at April 5, 2004 09:48 PM

Try out your window towards the tower at night =)

Posted by idleleaf at April 5, 2004 09:49 PM

The magnifier is great for this kind of pics! Was it difficult to build?

Anyhow, nice site & beatiful pix!

Posted by Robert Wood at June 6, 2004 06:15 PM

I like the magnifier. A very nice touch! For all of the other comments relating to the magnifier and not liking it, just move it off of the picture.

Posted by Vic Coelho at July 10, 2004 03:58 PM

very cool

Posted by dfgdfg at July 17, 2004 08:20 AM

Buddy, that picture is SERIOUS!I like it a lot, although that magnifier would only be good for "busy" pictures like this one, with a lot of details. Don't know much about photography (i can still enjoy it though)and this is my first time visiting this site, but i can tell you're talented and creative. I'm impressed. Good Job.

Posted by Saul at August 25, 2004 12:44 PM

I love the flash on all five of the pics you use it for. I have perfect trust in your choice of presentation so far, and the cool factor for the flash is fun and audacious each time you use it.
