Comments: Don River

I saw a Kingfisher in that felled tree a few weeks ago.

To be honest - in my 30 years of living in Toronto the Don River has never looked so clean.. Nice shot...

It's a river with an unfortunate fate. Surrounded by a highway on one side, somewhat hard to access parkland on the other with a deteriorated trail, and a railway line, it has no chance of being the beautiful urban river framed by great public spaces and architecture that it could be. Yet this being contemporary Toronto--a vibrant and urbane metropolis--it has at least a little bit of what it should have in the Evergreen Brickworks, Riverdale Park, and the upcoming West Don Lands neighbourhood. Maybe some day we can fully take it back for the city.

I think what makes this so powerful is the juxtaposition of nature and modern life. Very calming.
