I'm usually not a black and white fan but this is awesome. Very good.

A tad bleak looking and that string in the sky doesn't help much, but also doesn't hurt. It's an honest shot for so much of our life is bleak in truth, and the memory of the good days keeps us going. There is that transition from pebble to far off hills to add something to contemplate. Not quit as bleak as it first looks.

The sky has amazing brushstroke effects, quite different from the high-res pebbles. (A trick?)
A beautiful combination of textures, including the silvery grain of the mid-distance water that separates the other two.
And a lovely minimal composition: of course you needed the contrail, and the flat scrubby transparent island is to die for.
The story? -- Successive levels of escape. Not bleak, therefore. Perfect for this time of year.
