Comments: dark city

But wow! what a stunning picture. The cropping and the muted colors blow me away.

beautiful picture, but...what's not happy? and why's the tower dark?

Posted by tai at October 26, 2010 03:48 AM

I love the mood in that shot. It seems to me you have already shot that place a couple of times but it always looks so unique.

Posted by djib at October 26, 2010 04:04 AM

Maybe not so happy, but very beautyful !
I am staring at it for long moments...

Posted by Pietro at October 26, 2010 05:21 AM

I would love a background version of this!

At least you don't live in the States. I do, but I'm hoping to join you in a couple of years. Keep the place sane for me, will you?

Posted by f at October 26, 2010 06:02 AM

Beautiful pic! Are you able to post a desktop background size?

Posted by Aziz at October 26, 2010 07:40 AM

Speak for yourself. Not a happy day for you maybe, but don't speak for the city of Toronto as is so typical of the intolerance of the elite left and academics. Nice picture, as always, btw :)

Posted by Harald at October 26, 2010 08:27 AM

Maybe not, but this photo is gorgeous!

Posted by Melanie at October 26, 2010 09:40 AM

Not a Rob Ford fan I take it.

Posted by mafredv at October 26, 2010 09:43 AM

Wow. Fabulous photo.

Posted by Annie at October 26, 2010 10:49 AM

Indeed not a happy day. And it is funny that people like you and me understand it better because we have seen it first hand how bad people can ruin life. Torontonians are in for a ride. I just really hope this beautiful city which is greatly captured in your photo always remains the best. I love this city more than anywhere else in the world and your picture indicates you like it too.

Posted by sally at October 26, 2010 10:51 AM

I think this photo captures the feelings of many Torontonians today. Brilliant!

Posted by Miranda at October 26, 2010 12:04 PM

It's a sad day, but this picture will only inspire joy with it's awesome beauty and calmness as it sits on my desktop. Excellent capture. Thanks man!

Posted by mark at October 26, 2010 12:54 PM

We ordinary Torontonians just have to remain as critical and vocal against the ambitions of the redneck right as we can be. Great photography will always help keep us inspired :)

I love Toronto! World Class City. Beautiful skyline. Great friendly people. A must visit destination for any traveler.

Sorry Toronto, you're new mayor seems like a real jerk:

"(AIDS) is very preventable, if you are not doing needles and you are not gay, you wouldn't get AIDS probably, that's bottom line. How are women getting it? Maybe they are sleeping with bisexual men."

Posted by Justin at October 26, 2010 04:21 PM

Wow!! Sorry it's a dark day, but what an amazing capture. Beautifully done, my friend.

Posted by Amanda at October 26, 2010 04:24 PM

Absolute poetry. Dark days ahead, but our Toronto is strong.

Posted by Kieran at October 26, 2010 04:45 PM

not a happy day, indeed! i guess we have no choice but to make the best of it! seeing your work every day is wonderful, btw.

Posted by James at October 26, 2010 06:03 PM

Dark Days ahead indeed. The lunatics have taken over the asylum. Chin up. This too shall pass. A very lovely picture. Lets look for things beautiful in Toronto.

Posted by Shiran at October 26, 2010 06:44 PM

Storm clouds are brewing.

Sad day,indeed!
My dictionary includes "tolerant" in the definition of "liberal."
The Liberals in Toronto are having a sad day because their candidate for Mayor of Toronto, George Smitherman was soundly trounced by Conservative Rob Ford in Monday's election.
Somehow there seems to be a disconnect between the concept of "liberal' and "tolerant".
If Liberals are so tolerant, why are they sad?
Could it be that when you carefully analyze a liberal, you find that at his/her fundamental core there resides intolerance rather than tolerance.
Have a nice day.
P.S. Beautiful photo, as usual.

Are you compiling your best for THE coffee table book that is going to be a must-have for every visitor to Toronto? Because your shots are unbelievable.

Posted by Kikipotamus at October 26, 2010 07:29 PM

Don't worry Sam...although he will get rid of those pain-in-the-ass cyclists and privatize TTC, he will balance the budget!!!!

I guess I should be returning to my bicycle-friendly, culture-loving city of Montreal!!! I suggest you tag along...

MAYOR FORD DIES EATING 100 CELEBRATORY DOUBLE DOWNS, torontonians rejoice.

Posted by rob firge at October 26, 2010 11:11 PM

whatever, harald
the city is coming to an end. a bigot in a position of power.

AMAZING PICTURE, INDEED!

Posted by joe at October 26, 2010 11:11 PM

what a beautiful shot!

Posted by kathleen at October 26, 2010 11:17 PM

Yes, it`s a very sad day for Toronto. However, we should have seen this coming...

Posted by Ugur Gundogmus at October 26, 2010 11:37 PM

The comments indicate the appreciation for a good photo knows no political bounds. That may be surprising to some. I hope Mr. Ford does better than anyone expects. I would have wished for the same with Mr. Smitherman. The Ford vote is right out of the movie, Network. If you haven't seen it, you should. This election was exactly that..."I'M MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!" Won Peter Finch an Oscar. Won Rob Ford an election. Excellent photo as usual Sam. Cheers.

Wow, you've got a really nice shot right there. Great colors and a beautiful sky :)

The framing of this photo is AMAZING! the skyline is perfect and the biggest tower looks like is is going into the sky.

Posted by Molly at October 29, 2010 07:06 AM

Awesome, any chance for a larger version?

Posted by Ayan Talukder at October 29, 2010 09:06 PM

@Martin - I'm not sure I follow your logic. Yes we are tolerant as liberals, but that doesn't apply to being tolerant of intolerance which is often what the US Right seems to promote (against gay rights, against women's rights, for example). I can't speak for Canadian politics and what your political right stands for, though. Additionally being sad does not imply intolerance. I was sad that George W. Bush was president for 8 years, but I accepted him as our country's president. The Right won't even extend that courtesy to Obama.

At least we can agree on another beautiful photo. We can start on that common ground at least, but I'm still going to remain intolerant of intolerance here in the U.S. for our elections tomorrow.

Gorgeous.

Posted by k at November 3, 2010 05:17 PM

I love this shot, It would be awesome in a larger format for a desktop background.

Posted by Ayan Talukder at November 7, 2010 11:36 PM

@Martin, Please don't group us 'Liberals' all together. I think it's the 'NDP' (a.k.a No Diversity Please) that are truly sad. I don't think the best man for the job got in, but I also think the left needs to realise that there has been an OBVIOUS a disconnect with the suburbs and with the MAJORITY of Torontonians in the last 7 years. Numbers don't lie. That being said, great picture indeed. Interesting that they turned off the lights at the TOWER too!
