Comments: looking back

Nice shot, but make sure you don't blow any bubbles on the guy in the back. :)

Here in the UK the government are getting so paranoid the taking of photo's of police officers is considered an offense under the anti-terrorism act - somehow though they don't look so fearsome on bikes and in those shorts do they :-)

Great image! There is a controversy going on right now on DC about photographing police work. Couple of articles in the Washington Post are following a Police arrest of a photographer.

You can tell what that police officer on the left is thinking just by looking at him.

love this picture. i love the police! ^_^
did you talk to the cops and show them the pic/ask permission?

i can understand about not photographing the police, but i know that a lot of the police often look similar. when my dad was still working, a lot of them had similar facial hair and glasses and such. it would have been difficult to pick one out...

yeah, you could easily get into trouble taking picture of police activity in the US.

Did he say anything to you? He's probably an amateur photographer and was simply curious about the type of lens you were using.

Despite what happened during the G20, Canada is not a police state. Our country is based on a charter that specifically forbids unjust government and police action against individuals and groups who are behaving peaceably. There is no reason that would prohibit anyone photographing the work the police do in public. The police would probably like us to think we can't and perhaps underscore that by giving dirty looks; but that implied threat in itself is counter to the charter.
What gets me about the photo is that it was taken before any overt police misbehaviour had occurred. Sam's caught the mood by a great use of overall colour cast.
