amazing set - and a unique perspective of the skyline - earth hour!

Posted by JS at March 29, 2010 08:09 AM

This was the very location I hoped to make it to for Earth Hour but was unable to get outside. I observed the low voltage hour (we extended it for the rest of the evening) from home.
I was counting on your take of the event and am happy you say you haven't let me down.
: )

I just realized that I miss that (unnatural) sky color, at 8:43pm...

Nice pictures, interesting to see that besides business skyscrapers, almost nothing changed.

Nice montage. From your lens Toronto does seam a trés beau city. You're paying this city a great service.

Still lot of lights on....
Very nice presentation, Well done.

what a great picture and concept

What a gorgeous shot of the city, and your intriguing technique! Very enjoyable to look at.
I was disappointed with the number of condos that did not participate. Toronto Hydro reported that the drop in comsumption this year was only 10% compared to last years 15.5%.

Great picture. Wonderful way of showing Earth Hour.

How did you get from this park to Yonge and DUndas so quickly as depicted in yesterday's pic?

The Emerald City on the hill...
Looks like a long shot scene from a modern day version of The Wizard of Oz... but where is the yellow brick road?

You are too cool.

Great pictures, but how disappointing that during earth hour there were still so many lights on.

Really great.

Thanks for sharing these.

Awesome set, do you have a hi res version of the still photo at the top on flickr?

Posted by Ayan T at March 29, 2010 09:36 PM

Very cool! Papasito!

Just beautiful. The view, the light in the sky and in the buildings as the time passes, the calm and perfect technique of your observation -- this is a top Toronto shot, a top Sam shot, a top Earth Day shot. It gets all the prizes. Ahhhh.

Wonderful picture but I was disappointed at the very slight difference in the picture between 8:00 pm and 8:43 pm. Toronto could have done much better.

Posted by Celia at March 30, 2010 09:29 AM

WOW, nice job!

Interesting. I looked at this for a while. I initially thought you did a ND filter on the sky to darken it, but I didn't see the lights bright enough in the buildings. A little more checking and I see you composited at least 3 shots (7:29 - field, 7:45 - trees, 7:58 - sky & buildings). And even cloned out some structure on the bottom left corner. Very tricky. And patient. What did you do for over an hour while the city got dark?

It took me a long while to figure out what was going on as well between the top and bottom photos, and I'll have to thank blaine Kendall for the explanation as I thought it was merely edited version of the first one. Why did you mix those photos so carefully to create the top one? Is this something you often do with the pictures you upload?

I love, in the first photo, the guy standing in the middle of the field in the bottom right. What's that guy up to?? He's just starin'!

Wonderful set.

Fascinating how the 8:09 dark blue sky becomes distinctly orange with city light by 8:22 ... is that just a white balance difference ?
