Comments: not that into you

How do you go about photos like this? Ask the person? Hip shot? I can't imagine the subject would like you obviously pointing your camera at her unannounced.

I just love the way the girl is looking left and the lady on the poster is looking right. Congratulations.

Great association!

gotta ask, because im always a little scared of taking photos of people, just 'cause you never know how they are going to react, so did you ask before? or was this candid?

She is so full of worry! Not to mention, compositionally, the plethora of images, the man in the reflection on the right, seems to be looking at her, and yet the sign above her says 'he's just not than into you' along with the gleeful photo of a woman. Finally a semi-nude woman can be seen in the reflection of the doors - all small pieces of information give possible cause for her worry.

Dear,

your work will be a wonderful inspiration to create my new novel.

Thanks a lot and a big hug

awesome!

Another great shot. I am also wondering how you go about taking a photo like this? Doesn't look as if you asked permission since it's such a candid shot, but do you tell someone in this kind of situation you will be posting it? I'm always so concerned about that sort of thing. Between the poster, the reflections and her expression there is so much going on. Definitely makes you wonder what she's thinking about. Depending on the time of day she's probably wondering what to have for lunch. Or maybe, why the subway chimes have to be so out of tune.

Great picture, but I'm wondering as well about the candid shots thing as well.

Nice catch. Though I got the feeling her thoughts were along the lines of:

I wonder if I have my pepper spray in my purse in case the guy with the camera gets any ideas...

I like this picture, I don't know why.

You never seem to answer viewer's Qs about your candid shots of people. Why not? Trade secret? :)

Posted by k at January 28, 2010 05:44 PM

There is no way this was asked. This is a pure capture.

Leave aside all the elements in the subway. Her state of mind, non-verbal is so clear, so troubled. She has her bag covering her body. Her arms are crossed as well and her hand on her chin..all saying she is protecting herself. Her legs slightly closed at the knee.

I love this shot.

O man! u gotta be kidding me. I KNOW this girl. Funny, we went to school together for 3 years. For those who are wondering if sam asked for her permission, lemme tell you that she is an amateur photographer herself and I'm sure she would have chatted with him newaz. I had not seen her in 4 years. I miss Toronto and her, of course. But what a cool shot anyways. I'm sure she will admire it herself.

P.S. I'm 99.99% sure she is who I think she is. CRAZY!!

This will probably sound interesting/creepy, but that looks almost idetical to me! At first I had to take a second look, and I didn't live out here at the time (I've only been here about two weeks, but I used to visit pretty frequently). If you ever find her again, I want to meet her because she seems to be my body double or something, lol.
