I love this photo! This is the first time I've commented on your blog but I've been loving it for a little while now.

It looks like an scene from a movieā€¦
I find it somehow very different to what you usually do, but it's awesome, as always!

Were the black bars imposed to create the sense of a movie scene? Or is there some other purpose I'm missing?

Posted by Pierce at January 25, 2010 04:01 AM

almost feel the atmosphere: BRAAAAIIIIIINSSS...
i think their faces are missing....

Posted by Mandeswerelds at January 25, 2010 04:04 AM

Love it. Very cinematic. Great colours, great lighting. Thanks for posting every day - I don't know how you do it!

Fantastic! Depth of field, perspective, balance, plus multiple interpretations and potential stories, this photo has it all.

Posted by David at January 25, 2010 08:52 AM

This shot has a very cinematic feel to it, as if a screenshot was lifted right off a reel.

Posted by Mat at January 25, 2010 09:52 AM

I like this one, it's cool, in a retro sort of way.

Posted by Kimberly Way at January 25, 2010 10:09 AM

Creepy .... and cool!

The letterbox gives it a HBO / Showtime feel.

You seem to be into the backs of folks heads lately. It certainly puts an unusual perspective on things. I like this for the patterns/forms and color contrasts.

I seldom comment on your photos but enjoy them on a daily basis, this one is very special.

This photo has me feeling like I am breathing down the neck of the gentleman.

Many different tales spinning in my head about this one. Love it. You should call it necking...

reminds me of an edward hopper painting - very lonely.

As a few people have said, I'm a regular on your site and have never commented. This photo deserves my first comment here.

Love it!

My comment is redundant, but I felt I had to add my voice to the others. This is terrific, and quite different from what you usually put up on tlp. I love your other work too - but this cinematic photo is something altogether different in magnitude of effect, in the sort of thought and imagination it evokes. It seems to me anyway more immediate and full of motion. It looks like the girl is about to turn around, maybe in a coquettish way, maybe in an ambivalent one, maybe in an indifferent one, and meet or not meet the gaze of the guy looking diffidently at the floor and sneaking occasional looks at her...
Great stuff! Thank you very much.

Sam,

This is fantastic~!!! I wonder what he's reading and what she's reading. It almost feels like there will be someone coming into the frame soon to break the silence.

Have you worked on any movies before?

How can a place with a flowery curtain and a sign saying "Fresh Lemonade" be "creepy."It is actually a very 60's look. I'm not sure about the story. She is getting his drink/making change. Maybe he is attracted to her. I do love the composition and the debate about the 'story' in the comments.

Posted by Barbara M at January 26, 2010 10:00 AM

Just beautiful - so many stories here. It's a really powerful image, beautifully seen and captured.

Posted by muzz at January 26, 2010 07:51 PM

I thought you shot the screen at the theater or something....very cool...such sharp picture.
