Comments: the accident

Sam;

Love your work, but I believe today's pic was taken at King and Parliament. When I lived in the neighbourhood I used to wait for the westbound 504 King streetcar every weekday morning at that stop.

I wouldn't say unfortunate. He had what's coming to him. Twice over the speed limit, he deserved to die. Fortunately, not many people were around at the time of the accident.

Surprising that the accident could kill the driver. I suppose it is perfect justice that he died and no one else. People use cars like toys instead of tools that are dangerous and deserve respectful use.
The usual tendency to tail gate is a major killer on highways. Few follow more than 3 car lengths behind others, including police, but the two second rule at 80K is 45 meters or 9 car lengths. So it's no wonder so many people die when something goes wrong on a highway. We tend to be idiots behind the wheel. Drunk or sober.

Wow, Daniel. People deserve to die for speeding now? Just...wow.

I find it surprising that (some) have said he deserved to die. I understand that they could have easily have hit a person, group of people etc. but they hit an empty bus stop.

A common reminder we get in school is to ask ourselves in a situation, would we be doing what we're doing if our grandmother was there? Likewise for this situation, would you make these assertions in front of the driver's family?

Without knowing the person's history, one can't begin to pass judement of whether he 'deserved' it. The only justice as Hugh Petrie points out, and in fairness Daniel too, is that the driver did not injure or kill anyone else.

"He had what's coming to him. Twice over the speed limit, he deserved to die."

That is a very harsh statement. What else do people deserve to die for then?

"Jan 13, 2010: an 83 year-old woman passing a red light hit a mother and her todler, the 28 years old mother died at the scene."

WTF

Hi Sam The contrast in colour in the photo underlines the event. A person died. Someone is grieving. There is a cautionary in this photograph for all of us.

Does anyone have the details on this accident? Is there a news story somewhere? I can't find one anywhere...
