What we call civilisation is a very fragile concept and it relies on all things working well. Just imagine if water supply and electricity also goes out, the whole world will get in a state of chaos very soon

Heehee, you should do a time-lapse photography series of this spot over the strike.

When I saw the bins being shrink-wrapped on Monday I thought it seemed like a laughably token gesture. They should be completely covered with a lockable cover! But of course the strikers want the maximum negative impact. Looks like they're getting it.

Things aren't looking good?... More like things aren't smelling good!

I am so happy I am not in Toronto right now. This is disgusting situation.

it's amazing how stupid people are. Yeah, go ahead and pull back the wrap and force your garbage into it, even though you and everyone else knows it's just going to pile up.

*facepalm*

I love your pictures, never commented before, but I've been watching them as part of my start of the day for a long time! I'm from Mexico by the way, I had one of those garbage strikes on my home town! Hope your ends soon!

I wonder what it looks like now? Maybe you should do a time lapse video of this? haha.

The flip flop on the side gives it a 3rd world country feeling.

Hi,
I'm a regular reader(?) of your photo blog. And needless to say.. it's just amazing!.. a great set of stunning photographs each with a little story behind!.

And I'm commenting on this because i can really see the amount of garbage 'evey human being' makes.. personally. look at that amount of packaging which is getting wasted..

in the so called underdevoloped areas of the world there is nothing called waste.. they (formerly 'we') use everything till it disappears. A more sustainable way of living!

Well, this doesn't look like a "comment" to your photo.. you may choose not to publish.

anyway.. good works.. keep posting.. best of luck.

It always seems that garbage strikes occur in the summer. Yuck! It piles up so quickly. I hope the strike is short lived.

Maybe now, people in Toronto, will see the impact of throwing away all those fast food containers and plastic bottles. When the garbage we generate is whisked away every few hours, out of site, we don't realize how MUCH of it is out there, and how destructive it is to our planet.
Just a thought. Love your photos.

The filled the public pool near my house on Saturday, it was open for like a week and then the strike stared so they drained it...
