In this photo, it's the content that makes it memorable and stand out. The man is story-inspiring. Like he'd have so much to say. And I love how it gets darker around the feet. He's really impressive.

reflections? did you flip this photo back to normal in photoshop or was the man looking at his own reflection?
Posted by Andrew at April 24, 2009 02:02 AMoh reflectors. got it...
Posted by Andrew at April 24, 2009 02:03 AMGreat shot, full of personality. The light on his face and chest is excellent.
Posted by Richard Hollins at April 24, 2009 04:39 AMNice light! :)
Posted by Luis at April 24, 2009 05:01 AMGreat shot. i like the expression on his face, looking into the sun, with the cigar in his hand.
Posted by Bogdan at April 24, 2009 05:25 AMGreat photo!
I really like how it's only his face that's lit, and not the hat
Posted by Stefan at April 24, 2009 05:58 AMAwesome shot Sam as always.
M
what a great portrait, he has such a cool expression
Posted by BoB at April 24, 2009 09:09 AMI was going to comment on the noise in the sky and ask if it was related to post-processing, but then I saw that it was at ISO 1600 and realized it's still not too bad for 1600!
Posted by Seinberg at April 24, 2009 09:28 AMNice capture with the "glow".
I do feel inclined to give homeless money as I pass by, but I hate when I see them smoking. I don't usually give to them, because I am skeptical my charity will be for a warm meal, I feel it may be used to buy booze, drugs or in this case cigarettes.
Sam, great work as usual! I have a question - how do you approve people so they allow you to take photos of them? I found it awkward in situations like this. Thanks!
Posted by Ian at April 24, 2009 09:52 AMPositively weird light on this. Really effective. I first thought,as it loaded, that the face was part of the Bill Board. Good one, Sam.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at April 24, 2009 11:01 AMI wish the Man had a name. Did you talk to him?

NOTE: there's a small sensor dust spot in the sky...i'm sure you'll find it... if you wanna delete this post i'll repost my comment so there's no "comment discontinuity" should you choose to remove it. =)

Posted by Tom Bodhi Reeves at April 25, 2009 03:31 AMSam this is a very poetic photograph. Your positioning of the man focuses our attention on his face and makes us wonder about his 'story.'
Posted by Barbara Michel at April 27, 2009 11:04 AMHaving been viewing your stuff for a while now, nice. You have stepped out of the mold on this one, excellent! Has so much personality without a word. Impressive!
Posted by Bob C at April 27, 2009 08:40 PMThis looks alot like a man I photographed in Ottawa back in 2000.
Same hat, same expression.
