Very cool timelapse once again, but I wonder why at the end of the night it suddenly gets very dark, it seems like an unnatural fade-out..

Posted by Aeternus at October 16, 2003 09:02 AM

Aeternus, the reason for the fade out is in the middle of the night I changed the FSTOP to have sharper highlights in the morning (a limit in the software which sucks!) and in order to avoid a jump, i used a dissolve. good catch:)

Cool.

Impressive concept and execution, even if the software sucks.

Hi, this is great stuff! Could you tell me what software and cables you used? I own a Digital Ixus V2, could I do the same?

This is a great photo montage and just goes to show how much diligence and effort must go into producing such an item. I had the same idea for my own area of the world (Southern California) but have not yet gone out and set my camera up to shoot through the necessary time and number of frames. I think 20second gaps is extraordinarily difficult to produce in terms of battery-life and memory capacity on a digital still, but I think if I use a good enough tripod and timer, I could capture 1 minute intervals.

Anyhow, thanks for showing it can be done and produce a remarkable result. I have all the right software for composing the final product, it is much more making the time to not only shoot, but filter through for that which will make the final composition.

Perhaps some time before Christmas I will have a chance to give a similar look at South Orange County, CA (though I am not as technically proficient with the camera and am likely to produce a poorer final quality).

Cheers,

Rose

A great reminder that we all live beneath an ocean of gas. I love the sky as it rushes past at slow speed.

Very cool indeed. I want to do a time-lapse of a building being constructed next door! Can you please tell us what software you used?

Very nice video. I have tried this a few times with my Sony video camera using its interval mode. Here's a short video of the San Francisco skyline and the Golden gate bridge:

You have inspired me to try some more time-lapse videos but this time using my digital camera. I too have a Canon G3 and will experiment using your setup.

Thanks!

is that a shooting star at one point in the video? a light reflects off the main building for one frame then the next frame there it is.
