Comments: lightning in sunset

Wow... That's not something you see every day. Nice.

Posted by Brandon Stone at August 18, 2008 12:42 AM

I remember that sunset, it was Thursday night. This is an amazing photo. You're lucky you were in such a perfect place for it. I was downtown during that time and didn't even bother shooting the lightning.

Do you carry your whole kit with you all the time? I'm surprised you had your tripod and Pclix.

Posted by Andrew at August 18, 2008 12:52 AM

Wow! Simply gorgeous photo.

Posted by mel at August 18, 2008 12:53 AM

wow, this is amazing!!

Posted by Volodia at August 18, 2008 12:53 AM

Incredible!

Posted by Mark Baluk at August 18, 2008 01:35 AM

How big are the chances to see such a sky, the colours, the lightning? And you had your camera.

Thanks for the wallpaper size!!!

Posted by caro at August 18, 2008 01:51 AM

Wow, not a very common combination of two beautiful things. The sky color makes it look like it's really hot where the lightning is coming from.

Posted by Deniss at August 18, 2008 02:39 AM

A great shot of an unreal-like scene. The symmetry of the three lightning strikes is astonisning.

Posted by JuHa at August 18, 2008 02:39 AM

WOW!

I've never seen lightning like this. Really amazing!

Posted by blurb at August 18, 2008 02:45 AM

I am ...completely speechless. Wow.

Posted by Kevin at August 18, 2008 02:47 AM

I really love the first one...the colors, the water and it's reflection and everything just looks great...

Posted by Luis Murillo at August 18, 2008 02:52 AM

I don't know what to say really. This is stunning!

Posted by Star Spider at August 18, 2008 02:53 AM

Would have been an awesome shot, even without the lightning! Great work.

Posted by Richard Hayter at August 18, 2008 03:26 AM

Absolutely amazing colours! Have never seen a lightning in that form. Bravo!

Posted by vg at August 18, 2008 04:49 AM

WOW. This is amazing! What good luck you had capturing this. Stunning, vivid colors and just enough of the lightning showing up, brilliant! And great composition. This image is totally made out of win.

Posted by Elisa at August 18, 2008 05:22 AM

This is one of my favorites from your pics! well done.

Posted by nik at August 18, 2008 06:18 AM

Well done! That's amazing. I've never even seen anything like that, let alone captured it.

Glad to know it took 600 shots to get it – my lightning attempts have been unsuccessful. I was told you need a light trigger or something like that... or a lot of shots I guess. :P

Well first off - thank you very much for sharing this 1 in 600 with us. It is a truly remarkable shot! The play of colour dark vs light leaves me speechless.

And yes - this photo does make a brilliant desktop. I just had to play with the bringing out the light a little more and size it.

Simply the best!! Thanks!

Hi Sam,
WOW! Thanks for this great shot! You make people, who live in GTA and don't, viewing the city in a different way. Do you mind to share what post-camera processes you have done?
Thanks again!

Posted by Ian at August 19, 2008 01:04 PM

I've been amazed by some of your photos! I'm jealous! Of your talent and your lense. I've seen in comments your use of an L series. Is that strictly for Cannon? If not what is the equivilant for a Nikon? I need to upgrade my camera and buy a couple of wonderful lenses. The colors and the perfect contrast you pick up in your photos. It's like what the human eye is seeing. Even if there wasn't lightening in this picture I'd still be amazed just from the perfect tones and contrast!

Posted by Jennifer at August 20, 2008 11:11 AM

I've been following your blog for years and this is my first comment. When I saw this picture I just had to say something! That is some awesome dedication (and a dash of luck), Sam! I've always enjoyed your views of the GTA, makes me look at things differently everytime I'm in the city!

You've always been an inspiration to me. Keep up the amazing work!

Posted by Weotm at September 1, 2008 11:14 PM

I envy you having the gadgets that you do. I have been thinkin of investing on a SLR since some time now. The colours seem so vibrant, it got me wondering is is an HD shot? I have come across situations where the scene is so beautiful t the human eye, but I fail to capture it in its elegance when I look thru a camera! How can I come close to achieving it without having to fiddle with photoshop?

Posted by nita at September 5, 2008 03:43 AM

You captured an amazing shot, every time I have hit this bridge there is nothing I can make for a good shot. Congratulations.
