Comments: change

I think that is quite despicable.

Posted by dewaun.simmons at April 14, 2008 12:59 AM

Great photo, but it's a bit risky, don't you think?
What if the CIA really hunts this poor fella down?

Posted by Evan at April 14, 2008 01:00 AM

He must have been raking it in ;-)

Posted by onewayphotoblog / Mark at April 14, 2008 04:04 AM

Haha, original message, worth my change!

Nice composition and blurry background. B/W suits well.

Posted by vg at April 14, 2008 05:29 AM

Hahaha.. I love the fact that the "THIS IS SPARTA" guy is in the background.

Posted by sikander at April 14, 2008 07:23 AM

Angst & art.
In that, there is hope.

Posted by apothe at April 14, 2008 08:32 AM

hehe, I took a photo of him as well yesterday

Posted by Ali Kamran at April 14, 2008 09:22 AM

The fact that this pseudo-radical twit is unemployed is less than shocking. Nice handwriting though. Does The Daily Worker have an opening for a calligraphist?

Posted by Stephen at April 14, 2008 09:37 AM

Where do I send my contribution?

Posted by Mike at April 14, 2008 09:53 AM

Realizing that in the past you have usually given someone a few dollars or some change to take their picture. I have to ask if this was a different situation or not?

I also really like the composition with the busy background and the poster to the right. The angry man in the poster really fits this scenario.

Posted by Kurt W at April 14, 2008 09:55 AM

this is sparta?

Posted by akeem at April 14, 2008 09:57 AM

The faces in the advert in the background really made me smile, I love the back lighting that gives almost a halo effect around the mans hat. Maybe this man is an angel? Maybe not.

Posted by Ed O'Keeffe at April 14, 2008 10:21 AM

Extremely realistic, creative shot. Good composition and frame. I adore black-and-white

Posted by Photo libraries at April 14, 2008 11:24 AM

I can give 1 euro to him :))

Posted by barfly at April 14, 2008 12:56 PM

But what if he really does it?

The very thought is frightening.

Posted by George Dunbar at April 14, 2008 01:34 PM

I was a child in the US...I remember the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Robert Kennedy. I am no fan of Bush, but this is really not funny.

Posted by alice at April 14, 2008 02:41 PM

Nice photo of a hateful person.

Posted by rcg at April 14, 2008 04:59 PM

I can't stand Bush, but this is disgusting. How anyone can find humor in this is disturbing.

Posted by Chance at April 14, 2008 09:01 PM

perhaps its not meant to be funny, maybe the guy just wants some money. I dont want to speak for Sam but not all photos are funny, this doest strike me as a really haha funny picture. It's not really "disturbing" that someone could find humour in this, its just that you dont like it and you all feel that no one else should like it either...

I like the picture, its really great work Sam.

Dark Small World!

Posted by Bonbast at April 15, 2008 12:21 AM

he has similar facial characteristics as jake gyllenhaal, nice sales pitch though, i would've given a word of encouragement... before the cops tackle him that is.

Posted by leeman at April 15, 2008 05:10 AM

It's particularly sad that it apparently never occurred to the photographer to contact the Secret Service.

That's okay. I did.

Posted by Jason G. Williscroft at April 15, 2008 09:48 AM

Awesome photo, love to see people speaking their minds.

Posted by Evgeny Pogorelov at April 15, 2008 12:48 PM

I never give money to panhandlers. I would have given this guy a sheckel or two though, just for being creative and funny.

Posted by Al Cesario at April 15, 2008 10:39 PM

I remember in Montreal for las Xmas, a homeless had a message "ho ho ho-meless", I found it very creative but this in your picture is greatest

Posted by Alejandro Vega at April 16, 2008 10:36 AM

Great photo indeed. I also like the way that the Sparta and Will Ferrell expressions echo the poor chap's sentiments. Great tonal contrast, too, between the subject & background.

While we have 1st amendment freedom of speech protection here in the States, a sign like this would still get you arrested. They take threats to the Prez very seriously (even jokes). But in that this fellow is north of the border (and I assume a Canadian citizen), I doubt he can be extradited on charges of suspicion and/or making threats. Besides, I think this guy has enough troubles already to deal with.

Posted by Tim Hodge at April 16, 2008 01:52 PM

Contact the Secret Service? Are you serious? Who do I contact to report the mass murder being committed by the U.S. army, and ordered by George W. Bush?

Handing this guy some change for his creativity is nothing when compared to you sitting at home, terrified, and doing nothing about our government and the war crimes they are committing... funded by our tax dollars... now that is the real problem. At least this guy is asking for the money...

Posted by Steve Davis at April 20, 2008 12:26 AM

This man works for the US government, he is taking a survey on Canadians feelings about Bush.

Posted by EB at April 22, 2008 06:32 PM

I gave him some of my money, I was selling tags for air cadets behind where the picture was taken from so I got to see all of the people giving generously to him/his cause :P

Posted by TY at April 27, 2008 10:46 PM

I talked this guy tonight while wondering the streets, and he is a really nice person. I think he was just going for the 'shock factor' with his sign as a way to attract people...I don't think people should read too much into it.

Posted by Nicole at April 28, 2008 01:36 AM

that's one way to discover Canadian terrorists!
(if he's undercover, that is)

Posted by amc at April 28, 2008 04:48 AM

I'm sure as a photographer the first thing to cross ones mind here would be to contact the CIA or Secret Service. This is a moment in history people and very well documented. What is frightening to me (more so than this guys intentions) is that people look at this image and get all judgmental about it.

Posted by Michael at May 24, 2008 11:38 AM

Congrats, Sam - you made reddit.

Posted by Bill Zypher at September 8, 2008 02:42 PM

You people disgust me

Posted by Drew at September 8, 2008 09:26 PM

Brilliant! He either gets a ton of cash and eats like a king or the secret service takes him away and he gets three free meals a day, free cable TV and a nice warm place to sleep for 5 to 20.

AP, Eglinton: GEORGE BUSH SOLVES HOMELESS PROBLEM

Posted by Ohmaar at September 9, 2008 08:59 AM

I gave this guy a bus pass, a map, 200 dollars and a handgun. Lets just hope he doesn't bail on me and actually does follow through on his word. Die you murdering heartless piece of crap. Die!!!

Posted by John at September 9, 2008 10:24 AM

And somehow the myth of the peaceful liberal lives on.

Posted by Rasputin at September 9, 2008 12:07 PM

Man, there is nothing in this world I would like to see more than the ASSASSINATION of GEORGE BUSH. Kennedy did not deserve it, GB does. That fucker has tanked AMERICA. Dont defend the rich. Murder them.

Posted by ANON - MI at September 23, 2008 01:44 PM

Yeah, I'm sure this guy knows a lot about politics.

Posted by Roque Corona at November 6, 2008 03:19 PM

This cracks me up. I think it's insane people are taking this so seriously. Kudos to you, dude, for a creative way to make money!
