Can somebody tell Toronto that it isn't New York?

This is a great picture and I can't believe that this square is almost done! It feels like its been years.
If you have a picture from before the buildings at this corner were demolished, I would love to see it to compare.
Thanks again.

Why do you call it Toronto Life Square building?

Is it not called Metropolis?

Posted by Zack at September 22, 2007 12:12 AM

I can't believe it only took SEVEN years to get that building to almost being finished. SHEESH!

ah well, from what I've heard Ryerson's got it goof there.

btw, wonderful panorama Sam!

I really hate this intersection of Toronto.. I remember when they had models of the square as a green space, so it's interesting seeing the development of the area (eg. the addition of another concrete sun-blocking advertisement structure) as captured in this photo. What are those iron beams above Hakim optical going to be?

Hey Sam! Just wanted to say thanks for having this photoblog and for living in Toronto because without you I wouldn't get to quench my homesickness since moving here to Dublin last year! Cheers!!

"Can somebody tell Toronto that it isn't New York?"

i don't know if you're from Toronto or not but everyone i know does not want Toronto to be like New York. we hate what's being done to our city because we do feel like it's imitating New York and we do NOT like that!!

anyways cool picture.

yeah, i pass this everyday and was under the impression is was called metropolis.

regardless it will be such a relief not to have to maneuver through a construction zone everyday when this is finally done.

Can somebody tell New York that it's not the centre of the universe? Yes America was the first to invent the public square. Historic European cities were only following suite.

American and New York in particular were solely responsible for the creation of outdoor billboard and neon advertising. Hong Kong and Tokyo just borrowed the idea in greater scale.

Get over yourself. Our square may be an eye-sore but we don't claim the be the first to make the mistake.

It used to be called Metropolis: the name has been changed, for one reason or another. I read about the change a few weeks ago.

But now we look through a pigeon's eyes.

Gorgeous wide shot - great geometry everywhere, and excellent tones to compliment them.
