Posted by Andrew at August 5, 2007 01:38 AMWOW! this picture is really an optical illusion! nice job with the focus!!
Posted by Faramarz at August 5, 2007 02:09 AMWow. Just... wow.
Posted by Heath at August 5, 2007 02:29 AMTHAT is a great shot. Do you shoot it o"on the fly" (if I may say...) or you prepared your shoot?
Posted by Bob at August 5, 2007 03:06 AMReminds me of a Martin Parr shot.
Very good!
Nice capture!! :-)
It seemed to come for vacation... :-P
Nice... Love the Brighton Pier. It's surprising you got that much blur at 6.3
Posted by wflan at August 5, 2007 05:19 AMThat looks highly artificial to me, have you done some post processing? Intriguing shot.
Posted by Markus at August 5, 2007 05:50 AMNice Sam; this is a fun shot.
One I could never achieve.
Bravo!
Posted by lyn at August 5, 2007 07:47 AMStunning image. This one outshines many, but what of the dust spot over the pier...a quick clean and update Sam pls.
Posted by Barney at August 5, 2007 08:03 AMthe seagull looks as though it is floating? amazing, the blur of the background and clearer foreground...and how did the setting change from downtown toronto to a beach place in england!
Posted by jessica at August 5, 2007 09:15 AMI looked at this one quite a while wondering what was so speical about it - and then I saw the seagull - almost not even a part of the picture!
Posted by dweebe at August 5, 2007 09:21 AMWow. Nice frame.
Posted by Kirk Seth at August 5, 2007 09:33 AMWow, jeez Sam ! One of your best fo sure !

Posted by mel at August 5, 2007 11:57 AMNice shot, but damn those English beaches are terrible =/
Posted by asd at August 5, 2007 02:55 PMI love the way you capture the image as if it were totally still when you shot it. The framing is great & the action makes for a scene of beauty.
Posted by jgib at August 5, 2007 05:28 PMI love this pic.
I love the light, it's a great pic.
Bravo....
A gorgeous picture on my birthday. :)
Posted by strawww at August 5, 2007 08:42 PMI bet that's how seagulls see the beach... they see the other gulls very clearly, and everything else just sort of blends into the background!
Posted by Kimberly Way at August 5, 2007 09:58 PMWow. You have an unholy ability to get perfect captures. This is just amazing, I love how crystalline the dichotomies in focus make the seagull look.
Posted by Scott at August 5, 2007 10:29 PMI love the tension between the bird and the people in the background, a very dramatic feel to it.
Posted by Manoj at August 6, 2007 01:15 AMSo good shot !
g.
This is great
Posted by katya at August 6, 2007 09:44 AMWell worth nailing the seagull to the poster for...
Obviously kidding. In this shot you capture so much of the British seaside summer so perfectly: the rolled up trousers, the greyish sky that promises an imminent shower of rain, the jackets to hand in case it gets chilly... And then to get the seagull so perfectly, sailing through it all is just brilliant. Once more, a really fabulous photo. Thank you. It makes me want to make the trip to Brighton very soon!
i.f.
Great shot - used to live in Brighton so this brought back some memories being woken up most mornings by the dam birds, and many a drunken night on the beach.....
Posted by Wade at August 6, 2007 01:10 PMExcellent shot ! I like !!!
Posted by olivier [CoolPixels] at August 6, 2007 01:26 PMTHAT is AMAZING! love it!
Posted by Dan at August 8, 2007 01:41 AMbravo
cette mise au point, sur la mouette et rien d'autre, crée un déséquilibre qui fait toute la saveur de la photo
Bernard
Great example of creative compression here - this is fantastic!
Posted by Abe at August 8, 2007 01:26 PMbreathtaking!

Posted by Paul Umfahrer-Vass at August 9, 2007 10:40 AMVery cool, great depth and perfectly framed.
Posted by kristarella at August 22, 2007 01:45 AMIf you've ever read some of Micheal Ondaatje's works, this picture reminded me of his poem, 'The Gate in His Head'.
A quote (hopefully this doesn't constitute as stealing):
And then from Gibson's letter
with a blurred photograph of a gull.
Caught vision. The stunning white bird
an unclear stir.
Only in this photograph, it's the opposite; it is the world, instead of the bird, that is unclear.
Posted by lotus at November 1, 2007 11:19 PMreally good..i like it.
