Comments: lone tree in the sky

If i was there, I could look at the building exactly like this. It's professional, but why don't you try to look at the things not this normal way?
It's not art ...

i love that color combination!

Yawn. Your photos as of late have been predictably boring. Photoshop can only fix up a picture so much -- you need to actually have good original material. Maybe spend less time photoshopping and more time shooting?

Of course, you'll probably delete this comment, since you control the world. On your site, anyway.

I have to agree, this is not one of your best

the tree looks like it's waving! very cute. :)

Posted by mogo at May 28, 2007 01:29 PM

Cool! But maybe a little bit dark in the cornees?

These viewers don't know what they're talking about.

The dark cornering makes it look like its an intimate portrait and you're admiring from afar. It's a cold brick building yet a silly green tree with some life. Three colour tones, lines and an off beat treat.

Everything is uniform and intentionally boring but the thing that is most enjoyable is the item out of place. Art doesn't have to be a picture of a falling raindrop caught close up only to reveal a reflection of jesus lol.

I dig it.

You mean, your building ;)

I love the tree - overall, excellent composition (not-so-exciting building, constant blue sky - the tree is a star)

"Creativity is making mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep."

For the sake of this argument, I would say that art is knowing which moment or image is worth being photographed and captured.

And I would call this art.

I do not think this one is boring. I think this is Sam's style, find something that people normally ignore. But I do agree some people said you photoshoped too much. Sam, we love your work. Keep it up.

Haha, some people here really dislike this photo. I must agree that this is not the most original subject/composition. However, it is an attractive picture. I'm not sure why, but I think I like it.

Funny, I don't comment often and usually only on photos I really like, and this one caught my eye. Go figure that most of the people above don't like it! Oh well, I still think it's great. I love the colors and I love the tree.

I love this shot- not sure what everyone else is talking about. Nice colors- the tree really completes it all.

Great shot Sam!

What is that tree doing up there

Posted by navin at May 29, 2007 01:23 AM

Great shot as always!

Sam,

I love the light, the white-white blinds, the tree & your vision.

Posted by lyn at May 29, 2007 06:04 AM

ha.
"it's not art" Sam.
do you hear that?
you're too normal.
how could you look at this
in this way.
you must create art.
always.
now go read the art manual
and see what it says about
conventional ways.

I like this shot. The contrasting colors create interest and what caught my eye almost more than the tree is the person on the roof over to the left of center. At least it looks like a person. Doesn't look like an antenna or anything. If it is a person, I can't help but wonder why (s)he's up there....

What is this? You should just quit because this is below dirt.

Clean well captured view. I don't think thats a person atop the building. Judging by the size of the windows that object is too small to be a person. It looks more like a light post to me.

Sam drew in a bit of heat on this one. So, I'll throw my 2 cents in on the ongoing art debate.

First off, I will reitterate a comment I made once long ago in response to some art mavens. I don't recall anyone promising works of meaningful art on this site. I do recall the promise of a daily dose of Mr. Javanroughs visual experience. Duely provided without err to date.

Secondly, I will reitterate another comment I once made. Art mavens sadly fall short of the scientific mark, when it comes to the human psyche and the evolutionary development of pleasure and purpose from artistic development. Sadly for them, the truth is that the masses (being pop culture) are actually the scientificly speaking true experts of good art, all the mavens' pretentious belittling of the anthropological evolutionary realties of our human minds aside -- the mavens are clearly wrong. For more insight, I suggest reading the works of the Harvard University professor and psychologist Steven Pinker.

It looks like there's a dude standing on the roof!!!! ...at least at first glance

Sam,

WOW, this pic got a lot of negitive comments!!! I have not been to your web site in over a month, and going through all the pics today, this was the only one I checked out the comments. I will admit, it is a normal looking shot, but it has a great feel to it. The constrast of blue sky and brick is what does it for me.

Great pic, keep up the good work!

John
