Comments: corner building

I love vintage old houses like this. The round "tower" is just great! :-)

The Great Hall is a beautiful building, and it just glows in your photo. We've wandered through most of it, but there is one area that eludes us: The alleged bowling alley that stretched under queen west ... that lies behind a bricked up wall.

Very nice balanced ¿HDR?, looks very real.

That's The Great Hall. It's 115 years old, and formerly a YMCA. Now it's a function venue - weddings, concerts, etc.. I looked at it for a wedding and while the rooms are a good size, the interior paint job reminded me of a grade school and the smell from the washrooms was overpowering.

Still, it's a cool building. Good job.

Most of the time, power lines really frustrate me the way they're ALWAYS in the way, but this time, they seem to draw the eye to the building in the center of the frame. Nice composition.

The telephone pole makes this image for me! Very lovely.

I think it would look better if the building was off-center, and/or the image cropped a bit tighter. But otherwise, this is a fantastic shot. Sharp, detailed and good color.

In 1907, the Great Hall was the location of the West End YMCA. That year, one hundred years ago, Tom Longboat trained there for the Boston Marathon, and he won the race!

When he came back to Toronto by train, his friends at the YMCA ran from this building to meet the train at the Parkdale Station. This is where the current underpass is on Queen Street, at Dufferin. The steps to the station are still there.
