Comments: crystal and light streaks

awesome picture! This past year was the first time I ever lived downtown and I lived in the UT residences in the area. I passed the crystal everyday. I've never seen it in this spectacular view before though. really really beautiful

Lovely! I love your pics of Toronto. There are so many different and interesting buildings there! One of the places I would love to visit soon!

A HUGE AND BIG "WOW"....

Very cool. It reminds me of something from Transformers.

Wonderful pic. I think Libeskind's buildings are gobsmackingly marvellous. I hope you're going to let us have some shots of the interiors during the Exposed Architectural Preview.

One of your best so far, in my opinion. Great shot.

That is Unbelievably Awesome!*!*!**!*!*

Posted by Kimberly Way at May 22, 2007 11:58 AM

Great pic Sam!
The lights of the passing cars enhance the crystal appearance of the building.
The dark sky is teh final addition that make this image so good.

LOVE IT. IT LOOKS LIKE A SPACE SHIP OR SOMETHING. AMAZING COLOUR. GREAT WORK SAM!!!

What a bizarre structure. Looks like a building fell over. I like the traffic stream in front.

Posted by Alice at May 22, 2007 01:34 PM

Nice motion. I like the reflections too.

I have mixed feelings about this extension to the ROM. Any opinions to share? Like it? Dislike it?

Very nice, very nice ! How much ?

We're moving so fast that nothing stays the same. Great picture.

What a beautiful piece of art. Both the Crystal and the picture itself! Very inspiring ...

Posted by Fabiano at May 22, 2007 08:04 PM

Much better view of it than the other day's.

Posted by Gordito at May 22, 2007 08:13 PM

I don't know how you did it, but you somehow made this building look spectacular. This is truely a testament to your talent, that's fo sho.

Posted by selam at May 22, 2007 08:59 PM

It would look splendid as an independent structure but spiraling out of an historical aspirant? Like a biological mutation. :| Great capture nonetheless! :)

Posted by Sapphire at May 22, 2007 09:25 PM

great shot of an inferior building. Your fabulous photo glosses over the fact that most of it is SIDING - because the original design was too intricate and too light-invasive (for the delicate collections). Now we will be stuck with an excresence, not a crystal.

Posted by susan at May 22, 2007 11:40 PM

Great long exposure photo! The "stripes" the cars create add another dimension to this photo! Again, great!

I'm an employee at the ROM, and I spend a bit of time 'defending' the new building to skeptics, but I think you've captured in this photo, probably for the first time ever, the essence of why people who love the addition love it.

I've watched it go up over the few years, and you've captured in this photo what I think is one of the nicer surprises of the new building: the way it reflects the sidewalk and street life down to pedestrians. It's like a mirror in the sky. This photo looks better and has more drama than any of the computer renderings that have been trying to capture this exact angle for the last few years.

Interesting that there were so many negative comments about the building on your shot from a few days, but this angle seems to be bringing out some praise ...

Great everything ... I don't know how you manage to make your photos like they were shot in a studio! Thanks for sharing this amazing photos.

Posted by Ali Afghah at May 23, 2007 05:16 AM

Nice motion. How fortunate that even the crane was leaning in the right direction.

Posted by ryan at May 23, 2007 08:46 AM

Great sky! The glass really does a nice job of picking up the colors. The timing of the cars driving by looks perfect too. The streaks of red really draw you into the depth of the photo.

I am amazed every time I see a shot like this. Well done.

"Your fabulous photo glosses over the fact that most of it is SIDING - because the original design was too intricate and too light-invasive (for the delicate collections)."

Wonder why they couldn't just use dark glass - like sunglasses.

Posted by gordito at May 24, 2007 08:24 PM

awesome. the long exposure creates a fantastic effect on the lights, in contrast to the still ness of the crystal

Posted by Wanderer at May 24, 2007 09:45 PM

Nice photo as always.

I usually love anything new and shinny. new buildings are like candy to my eyes, but honestly this is a great photo of a quite ugly building. I sure hope that shantytown shack-like, alluminum looking, disastor aftermath looking, exterior never rusts, or else may whatever diety one chooses please spare our eyes from the sight that it will present us with.

Posted by scott.co.jp at May 24, 2007 10:54 PM

How the hell do you find skies like this in Toronto?

I feel like I never look up.

Posted by John at May 25, 2007 08:56 AM

Impressive ! It looks like in a scene in a SciFi movie.
Your "vision" was great on this one !!!

Posted by XtoF at May 28, 2007 06:07 PM

It looks like a space ship crash landed or something. :) Neat photo.

Posted by Stephen at May 29, 2007 02:18 PM

me thinketh I've been too harsh upon this extension.

It is rather like a newly placed filling in the mouth. At first, most intrusive and strange, it struck me as an undesirable growth.

Overtime, hoever, I am growing accustomed to its presence and use to its character. Like a filling it grows more comfortable and familiar with the passage of time. Though I am left pondering the question of if I can ever truly be thankful for its presence or if I will forever long for my original undamaged tooths return.

Posted by scott at May 31, 2007 01:26 AM

Thats the most sci-fi image I think I've seen on here... Superb.
