Comments: ladies in red

The symmetry between the painted lady and the living lady is staggering; the hair, the red attire, the white shine off the real lady follows the white collar of the painted one, and the direction of their glance is near identicle.

Whether these were your exact intentions or simply probability (it's always a mixture of both, isn't it), the mear fact that you captured this moment is beatiful. A subtely impressive piece, I love it.

Such a curious moment. Grand.

I like the contrast between the bareness of the man vs. the bus ad vs. the conservatively dressed woman in the painting. Very nice eye on this one!

Cool shot, too bad the real lady does not have a white collar ;-)

Ya gotta love a candid that couldn't have been better is scripted many times over. Just love how the woman in red is drawing such a strong connecting line to the portraite with her gaze. And the juxtaposiion between the painting and the advertising (which is being delightfully ignored by the photo's subjects) is grand.

Start my day with your site, btw. So thanks for all the great work.

Humans! There are humans in Toronto!

This is one of my favorite shots of yours! Love your usual cityscape shots, but certainly refreshing to see human subjects. Nice interplay going on here. Keep it up!

This is great. There's something about the advert for Calvin Klein and the guy in the wifebeater which is awesome. The picture he's holding is a great detail, too. Excellent.

it's almost as if she's staring at a painting of herself. good shot.

I love this moment you have captured.

Really like this one. Good change from all your 10mm shots, I can only take so many of thoses before they all start looking kind of the same.

What a hillarious catch!! And so clear -- good one!!

Posted by Henry at May 12, 2007 01:00 PM

Love it! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! The black-red-white colours are wonderful. Wish that painting was mine as well!

Posted by Fiona at May 12, 2007 01:27 PM

hahaha. what a whimsical image; i love that there's the woman in the painting, the women on the side of the bus, and the actual woman standing there.

I can't put a finger on it, but something about this picture I really like. Well done.

Also, the weather? He is in a sleeveless shirt and she has a long sleeve jacket on?

hahah the lady in the painting almost looks like the lady walking this is a pretty cool pic sam good job

Posted by mike at May 12, 2007 03:22 PM

Neat shot. I wonder what the woman is thinking.

Posted by Alice at May 12, 2007 04:27 PM

Wow, I really like the duality in this picture: the buttoned-up painting of the demure woman juxtaposed against the overtly sexy model in lingerie on the bus billboard. There's also the painting vs. printing aspect, old vs. new... Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but it's interesting. =)

what an interesting shot. i love the juxtaposition of the woman in the portrait with the woman in the CK advertisement.

UR clever! rgrds from Poland :)

Posted by transparente at May 12, 2007 05:38 PM

This is a great photo, What are the chances; the woman in the painting and the woman on the street look alike--great capture.

Posted by MarkL at May 12, 2007 05:56 PM

Interesting moment, and a great capture.

Posted by Ty at May 12, 2007 07:41 PM

Hey, great moment... and good timing! There's a strange similarity between the subject of the painting and the woman who is looking at it... and I always like it when there is a streetcar in the background for downtown shots. They are just quintessentially Toronto. One could also discuss the role of the CK model in the photo, but this is not an essay, it is a comment! :)

one of the best of this year Sam. It's like that lady has discovered a painting of her long lost sister!

Posted by behrouz at May 12, 2007 09:29 PM

This is a curious image. The woman on the right almost resembles the younger woman in the painting.

Posted by Justin at May 12, 2007 09:34 PM

Clever. :)

I love it.

This is a very funny shot. I would have called it "Art Thief and Giant Handbag."

But the red works.

Bravo!

Posted by Hugh at May 12, 2007 11:28 PM

Great image. But has any one noticed that the woman in red can not see the portrait that the fellow is carrying? I wonder what she is looking at.

Why do we assume that everyone sees things as we see them?

Posted by Philip at May 13, 2007 04:05 PM

Absolutely amazing. And the yellow pages ad on the bus parallels the walking man. What a moment.

Posted by Moussa at May 14, 2007 09:08 AM

I love the colours in this one - the red, white and black... looks like it could have been painted.

Posted by Elinor at May 14, 2007 11:12 PM

One of the gratest candid photo I have seen in my whole life. You must be sooooo proud of this one !
