Comments: towers and I

The building on the left looks almost 2d with this lighting.

wow.
sam.
you are tall.

Great use of your late-day shadow to carry the theme of height... it really draws the eye up the page. (The title should be "Towers and Me," though.)

What a tight shot. I like it. Awesome.

Nice, my home base. This is standing at the parking lot in the south-east corner of Yonge St. and Bishop Ave. The tall building with the blue balconies on the left is 7 Bishop Ave. I used to live there. They are in the process of repainting the blue right now. TTC was also planning to run their eastbound Finch buses along Bishop and down Kenneth and then onto Finch which really irked a lot of people in the neighbourhood. It's still under discussion but I hope it doesn't go through. Kenneth Ave is already pretty busy with cars and people. Last thing it needs are 40 buses an hour rolling through there. Anyways, I'm drifting off topic, nice photo of my neighbourhood!

Beautiful shot! The building on the left looks like a paper cut-out. Very cool. And the inclusion of your shadow in the shot really helps emphasize the height of the buildings too. Nicely done!

The tower on the left side looks like a rendering, rather than a photograph; did you insert that tower, or is it actually part of the photograph?

I always find the light just before sunset to be quite magical, as it is here.

And it's interesting that so many have noted how 2 dimensional that building on the left looks - like a cut out as one says. The angle on that left side missing wall must be less than a right angle to do this - it surely looks so. Definitely interesting shot.

Very nice photo indeed, but the left hand tower looks quite artificial, somehow the shadows don't match up. Have you done a bit of rendering?

I often wonder whether or not you have used a tripod to steady your shots, Sam. I don't have to wonder about this one!

cool picture. actually one of the few pctures with u in it ;-)

both buildings- specialy the left one look kinda flat.. don't know if it's the lense or the light.

hey Sam, both the building and especially the one on the left look really distorted. you know... I really appreciate the straight lines, well because thats your style, but is there a limit? I love your site, so dont get me wrong, but I think this one is PTlens gone out of control.

Sam long legs!!

I love it - the perfect photographer's self-portrait!
This is about the only way there are shots of me in my photo travels - the shadow, or the window reflection (which I've seen you in as well).

Thank you so much, Sam, for the time you spend in delivering a new photo for us to ponder - daily!

Did you use a TSE for this shot or correct the perspective in post? The verticals are all correct, but the left tower looks like it's a cardboard facade.
I like how you've included yourself in the shot.

actually, towers and me

Posted by WeeDram at May 12, 2007 11:16 AM

the distortion on the left is a bit too much for me. The building begins to look unreal, like a movie backdrop.

I am filled with a melancholy nostelgia as i view this photo... I have meaningful memories of this place (memories that weigh heavy on my mind, yet are somehow consoling; were they to depart, I fear their absence would be a greater hardship to endure).
