Comments: church and hotel

great contrast... the hotel is totally out of contest there!

Sam, correct lens name. There is a typo 1-22.

Posted by asd at April 25, 2007 03:00 AM

the juxtaposition brings out the texture of the church walls so nicely.. it's like two buildings meeting accidentally at an intersection of different dimensions

A stunning picture and great pictorial composition of a sad combination of buildings. I like the detail on the church and the clouds.

Posted by Stefan at April 25, 2007 03:37 AM

I really like the clouds, and the church is fantastic!

Fantastic use of perspective and contrasting the "old" with the "new". Nice shot.

Stunning. I love the colors !

And, as usual : so sharp... but how ???

Posted by LeBagage at April 25, 2007 06:03 AM

nice.
imagine what Monet
could've done with this.
mmmmmm.

Posted by Lx at April 25, 2007 06:25 AM

Great shot! Right down to the reflection of the sky in the window!

Posted by Rob at April 25, 2007 06:40 AM

Nice shot, is it HDR? If not it's a very good exposure! Did you use a ND Grad?

Posted by Jas at April 25, 2007 06:50 AM

Nice contrast again between old and new. Gives the impression here that the old building is stronger and will prevail.

Posted by TimTim74 at April 25, 2007 06:55 AM

Unbelievable Sam. The past meets modern. Quite inspirational as always.

Posted by Chris at April 25, 2007 07:38 AM

if there wasnt a perfect picture of the old mixing with the new than this is it. and the beauty of it makes it so, well, perfect.

Posted by Taylor Crandall at April 25, 2007 07:39 AM

astonishing!

Ok - jaw just hit the desk..

what a fabulous shot of old/new architecture! nice job.

Posted by pixels.in.my.head at April 25, 2007 08:49 AM

I like this one, quite well portrayed in my opinion. Like the old and mystic feeling of the church while there is this modern building in the background, makes you stop and think for a moment. Also, sky have exposed out just amazing!

Posted by saiko at April 25, 2007 09:06 AM

Excellent! Great merging of the old and the new. Composition perfect, as usual.

Posted by Scott Murdoch at April 25, 2007 09:16 AM

Excellent composition! Impressive!

Posted by Jeremy at April 25, 2007 09:23 AM

Another dramatic and impressive shot! For a while there, I was thinking all your effects were coming from the camera, but now I suspect...filter?

I've just started using Lightroom and it's a big help.

You?

Posted by Andrew at April 25, 2007 10:12 AM

trés fort contraste ...

Posted by véronique at April 25, 2007 10:34 AM

I've always been facinated by the contrast between these two buildings -- this photos captures it nicely.

Posted by Meera at April 25, 2007 11:26 AM

Nice, I work around here too (if by queens park you mean avenue). I really like the detail in the brickwork of the church. I'm still trying to learn how to get that sort of detail and lighting contrast in my photos. Great work. This site is terrific.

Posted by theedandonly at April 25, 2007 11:34 AM

I love the contrast of the architecture, and the colours, and the light -- but that is not a hotel. It is the Renaisance Plaza, a condo, with offices on the Bloor St. lower floors.

Posted by Henry at April 25, 2007 11:42 AM

This almost made me spill my coffee! Wonderful image, especially the contrast of old and new :)

Posted by Daniel Seguin at April 25, 2007 04:49 PM

Awesome! I really like the clouds and the building texture. Was there any post processing or are those colors natural? Great photo.

Posted by Ian at April 25, 2007 05:24 PM

Another composition that shows a wonderful blend of the old and the new. Great perspective.

Great combination of old and new.

Posted by Michael Rawluk at April 25, 2007 11:03 PM

Beautiful shot. I used to volunteer at the soup kitchen that ran in the church's basement through U of T.

Posted by meeshem at April 26, 2007 01:18 AM

Nice the way the church is in shadow and the other building is well-lit. Nicely captured.

Posted by Alice at April 26, 2007 11:00 AM

Really nicely done. I could see framing this photo for a spot on the wall.

Posted by Magess at April 30, 2007 07:20 AM
