Hi

I've been a long time subscriber to your RSS feed, and I love your daily dose. This however has completely blown my mind. I hope you don't mind but I've put it up over at my tumblr blog at beefrap.tumblr.com

Keep up the fantastic work!

Posted by Kev at April 13, 2007 05:14 AM

I like this place, there's also a nice elephant :-).

Posted by Tessa at April 13, 2007 06:19 AM

Your posts over the past few days haven't blown me away, but this one is great; I've seen these guys before, but never so close, and the light you caught on them just brings them (eerily) to life.

Posted by JVL at April 13, 2007 07:02 AM

have you been to Calgary? we have almost the same statue...

Posted by bev at April 13, 2007 07:16 AM

Ah, very cool. :) I love the light on their faces and similar tones throughout the photo. It's like they belong in that world and appropriate that no humans are in sight.

Posted by Andy at April 13, 2007 07:21 AM

I love the tones you pulled out of this image!

Posted by Sean Galbraith at April 13, 2007 07:21 AM

When we lived in Toronto I always loved seeing those metal guys! You've done a great job capturing two of them going about their business.

Posted by Jack at April 13, 2007 07:40 AM

Nice one! These guys look like they're having a jolly chat after a days work.

Posted by Jeremy at April 13, 2007 07:47 AM

Who were these men?

Posted by Christine at April 13, 2007 07:50 AM

I think the framing is perfect. I also think that the use of black and white was a great choice. I love the way they both seem to be looking up at the buildings in amazement.

Posted by MarkL at April 13, 2007 08:12 AM

"no really, sir
it's my pleasure...
really it is"

Posted by Lx at April 13, 2007 08:37 AM

I love the tones in this photo! Nice use of perspective too.

This sculpture is by the late Canadian artist, William McElcheran, who created a series of sculptures of portly businessmen which were a whimiscally gentle, yet critical, commentary on capitalism.

Great lighting and colour for this one! Thanks for finding and sharing, Sam!

Posted by Kathy at April 13, 2007 09:34 AM

I always thought this was mediocre corporate sculpture in a cold corporate courtyard, but you've caught something dynamic and humorous for sure.

Posted by matthew at April 13, 2007 09:50 AM

That is an Amazingly Eerie photo, well done!

Posted by serkoart at April 13, 2007 09:58 AM

The statues interest me for they are new from when I lived in Toronto. I'm curious as to what they represent. The closest one makes me think John Belushi. They make for a moody shot.

It amuses me how many are jealous of your 10-22 lens, which is way useful in the city. Out here in the country I'm aching for more telephoto - to get close to the birds and all. There's no end to want.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at April 13, 2007 10:37 AM

wow, really nice shot

Posted by sutter at April 13, 2007 10:42 AM

Posted by Jonny at April 13, 2007 11:04 AM

totally amazing shot, grats on giving this picture something really special with you wide angle!

Posted by paul georges at April 13, 2007 11:52 AM

Oustanding atmosphere and dark\bright style. Also love the contrast between round shaped statue and sharp straight building paterns. There really somthing here.
Keep shooting so Awesomely

Posted by marcello at April 14, 2007 07:20 AM

Great perspective. I didn't see these guys last time I was in Commerce Court, assuming this was shot there. Love the toning, too.

Posted by 24by36 at April 14, 2007 10:07 AM

A great shot, I love the tones and the light reflecting off the guys.

Posted by Rich at April 14, 2007 02:35 PM

re: Calgary

I was shocked when I saw this in Toronto too!!! The inscription, if I remember correctly, says that these came in a set of 4.

I wonder where the other two are.

Posted by Darren at April 14, 2007 08:29 PM

The capture is just perfect with all these lighted windows !
