Everything is old, broken and crumbled out here, but I love it!
Posted by javga at March 30, 2007 04:51 AMIs that your Shaggin Wagon? :) You really captured the crudiest of Toronto.
Posted by Rocky at March 30, 2007 07:00 AMlisten.
this is the van
which delivers Chinese food
to this godforsaken joint.
and i don't know what it is
(MSG)
but I keep coming back
and eating the food.

p.s. love this one.
You have such a wonderful talent for making the everyday mundane scene into a great photograph. Great job!
Posted by Alice at March 30, 2007 09:15 AMA Third-World place in a rich city...
Posted by Jonas at March 30, 2007 09:23 AMIs this a scene from Scorsese's next film?!!
Love the tones and details you've captured.
Posted by Fiona at March 30, 2007 09:57 AMNice colour ... Big inspiration :-)
Posted by LB at March 30, 2007 10:39 AMYour getting me laughing a lot with your trips down the back alleys of Toronto ugliness. Love it. This must be one of the more depressing spots to stumble into. Black paint or just dirt it's a knockover. Even the van has crud spots.
It's all remeniscent of being backstage in a show where on stage looks beautiful while backstage is in total theatrical confussion.
With all my comments about dark pictures this one is as honestly dark as it should be.
Don't forget to get back to the tidy side of life.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at March 30, 2007 11:06 AMnice angle on the car.
Posted by Andrew at March 30, 2007 11:32 AMit trully reminds me of the movie,"Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", nice job SAM.
Posted by siavash at March 30, 2007 12:11 PMThis photograph immediately grabbed my attention for a different reason than most of yours do... because of the perspective and lens angle. The lines in the side of the van and front of the building look basically horizontal - like from a narrow angle lens. Yet the back of the van and sides of the building have heavy perspective (a "tight" vanishing point) - like from a wide angle lens.
VERY interesting shot, even if you never reveal _all_ your secrets. But it does compel me to ask, was the effect I'm observing accomplished through the lens, or after the fact in Photoshop?
(Awesome picture by the way, regardless of the perspective issue.)
Posted by Darren at March 30, 2007 02:02 PMTerrific colors and composition. The van gives the scene a '70s feel.
Posted by MarkDM at March 30, 2007 03:11 PMBonjour,
Well done composition! Great details! Bravo!
THE MOST BEAUTFUL THING I'VE EVER SEEN :D
Posted by Paula Invisigirl at March 30, 2007 04:29 PMsam, this is wonderful! fabulous!
an inspirational work this is.
.... think i'll sketch it right now ~
great capture sam!
the reflection in the puddle is ingenious.
Yes that persective is amazing. The van looks (I can't put my finger on it) stretched, compressed? Perhaps it's the scale, the industrial warehouse gives the perception that it's a commercial block where the windows and features would all be smaller. The van seems smaller than it should.
And dual vocal points in this crude alley- outstanding.
Posted by A.R. at March 30, 2007 09:40 PMI like the window above the door mirroring the silver, and then the building in the back on top of the right side, so shiny and new, in the powder blue of the old van.
