I thought something was wrong with your spring date.... here is a copy of an email I sent everyone ... I also sent a hyperlink to your site with it.....
" It was posted on the Internet that today is the first day of spring, which is the Persian New Year (Norouz). Happy New Year. (or is it March the 21st ?)

http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/

Tomorrow is the Vernal Equinox (shortest day of the year North of the equator) so why is today the Persian New Year ? Might have something to do with the International Date Line maybe it is tomorrow in Paris and maybe it was just a mistake. .

So, Happy New Year to you again, Sam! One cannot have too many of those anyway.

Posted by Ron at March 21, 2007 08:52 AM

Well you were right about when spring started, it just didn't start until 8:07 PM (here in Ottawa area). You did wake me from my winter sleep.

May your Haft Sin cup be filled with joy.

Happy Persian New Year Sam!
I love this pic.

Actually, Eid-e Norouz (Persian New Years) is celebrated on the vernal equinox. So, you were right about celebrating last night.

On second thought, after researching a little, Wikipedia states that "it is celebrated by some communities on March 21st and by others on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox (start of spring), which may occur on March 20th, 21st or 22nd."

So, celebrate it all three days if you want :D

Eid-e shoma mobarak!

Haft. Interesting. I wonder if that word has similar roots with the prefix "Hept" which is used to describe things that relate to 7 (ie: Heptane, Heptathalon...etc)

Nice shot Sam. :) Happy New Year.

My Spacing calendar says it was yesterday. I think the discrepancy is today is the first *full* day of spring. I think it turned to spring around 8pm last night, I heard on the radio.

Bill, by persian he is refering to the dominant ethnic group of Iran (as in persian empire), not Paris.
