Happy New, Great photo!

Posted by Ige at March 20, 2007 03:06 AM

Such a beautiful picture. Great choice for end of winter and start of spring. I guess it's been an accident that that rose trapped in ice, but your artistic look catched it prudent for this celebration.

Wish I had this level of photographic prowess right about now, Vancouver is beginning to bloom.

Happy new year to you too!

Great picture which matches the occasion.

Thank you for another (Persian) year of great photographs.

Very nice shot (as usual...)

Happy Norouz, Sam. I hope for you that you are in better mood than last year. If I remember correctly, you weren't very happy because of huge workload.

Bien amicalement,

Happy New Year!

This is really, really, stunning. What a unique photo! Definitely appropriate for the cold start to spring we are having (here in NJ at least).

Posted by Laurie at March 20, 2007 09:17 AM

looks cool. nice colors. the ice looks remarkably good.

Posted by Andrew at March 20, 2007 09:21 AM

Again your quick eye catches an interesting oddity.

Sweet shot!

GREAT capture... There's something strangely melancholic about this shot, all while being a beacon of hope. Right on.

happy new year!!

Posted by faraari at March 20, 2007 10:18 AM

i usually can't stand your comment board, so i never post. too many people posting the same comments. but this photo warrants a comment. the depth of texture here is very very good. i have this lens and i love using it. this is probably your best photo in terms of capturing detail and light, since it could have all been lost in the glare of the ice. plus the embedded rose gives a dissonant feel, looking so perfect yet trapped in ice (even if it is fake)

i visit your site everyday. some photos are blah and some are great but i always check it out. one thing i have concluded is that i am never moving to toronto.

Great setting! Nice picture!

Posted by Kalikea at March 20, 2007 10:31 AM

Bonjour,
Well done shot! Good effect! Spring!

Posted by jelb at March 20, 2007 11:10 AM

That red is really shocking in an otherwise colorless image. I really like the texture throughout the ice.

Posted by Justin at March 20, 2007 11:18 AM

oh,my! it's so beautiful... a beauty caught in time ;) marvellous! :)

Posted by Julka at March 20, 2007 11:25 AM

Great shot. Nice contrast with the red against the ice.

Posted by Alice at March 20, 2007 11:31 AM

Sam, only a person with a beautiful and happy soul could find beauty as easily as you do. Norouz.

Posted by Henry at March 20, 2007 11:50 AM

very nice. You could also entitle it "Spring awaiting release". :-)

Hmm today is the Sindhi new year as well !

Posted by Hitesh Sawlani at March 20, 2007 01:22 PM

I've been checking your site on a daily basis now for a few weeks and this is by far my favourite image to date. I love the contrast between the cold, hard, jagged ice and the soft, vibrant, curvy rose. This composition reminds me a bit of some of Ansel Adams' work in which he strove to contrast drastically different shapes and lines (ie: sharp angles of mountains with puffiness of overhead clouds). I absolutely love your work, and you have truly inspired me to expand my own abilities as a photographer.

Posted by Sheila at March 20, 2007 02:20 PM

Happy new year.
Beautiful picture

Posted by Naimi at March 20, 2007 02:34 PM

Oh man, beautiful shot Sam. The rose being whole (albeit fake) really makes the image... it looks like a planned shot rather than spur of the moment. Nicely done.

Posted by Ash at March 20, 2007 03:19 PM

Spring always starts this way, doesn't it. I do feel artificial in the winter! Love the image.

Posted by Christine at March 20, 2007 03:21 PM

Happy Norouz Sam!

what a great find, and photo :)

Posted by annemarie at March 20, 2007 03:21 PM

Beautiful composition!

Posted by Wolfgang at March 20, 2007 04:19 PM

It's too cold in Toronto to be the first day of spring. I guess that's what we get for having such a late winter.

Posted by Rob at March 20, 2007 04:45 PM

happy nooruz sam!

Happy Norouz to you. Spring seems like a great time to welcome the year. This is a beautiful shot to celebrate with.

Your photos are always interesting, Sam, but sometimes, like today, they really take my breath away.

Amazing.

Posted by oliver at March 20, 2007 10:47 PM

Reminds me of a Japanese Hokku I read in a Mishima novel:
As long as you know
I am waiting, take your time,
Flowers of the spring.

Posted by Lida at March 20, 2007 11:16 PM

Oh! Beautiful!

Posted by Annika at March 21, 2007 03:23 AM

INSTANTLY inspired to comment on this one - a fantastic crop and a stunning final product; best one I've seen in a while here, bravo.

Posted by Rich at March 21, 2007 11:27 AM

This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. You have been doing a lot of city scapes lately and this is such a refreshing change. I have been keeping my eye on this site for a while and had just about given up. This is stunning.

Posted by Erin at March 21, 2007 07:03 PM

the rose look real to me... luv it!

^-^

Posted by yinlee at March 22, 2007 05:40 AM

I would say that was a very good eye you had to see this. It also looks like water rushing over it - very interesting find.
