What's that?

Great sky Sam against the snowy foreground. I particularly like the 2 bags of trash. They look so surreal too me like you've put them in. Great work :)

I like how the sky turned out!

Now that's a real photojournalistic image. The pretty and the ugly.

I'd guess that's a fire house tower with the clock. Sure a pleasing design. Too bad city planning was so bad it's buried in that less than lovely building. Despite 9 years in Toronto in the 60's I never noticed that tower.

Again your quick eye catches a human weakness.

I don't know if it should, but when I rolled down to see the bottom of this picture, I laughed out loud. Great pic, as always.

great shot sam! i've always wanted to take a picture of that clock tower but it just didn't seem to work taking it from yonge. nice work.

I love the view of the clock tower from the backstreets... great contrast of the places and the non-places in downtown Toronto.

It looks like the clock tower poked up to have a peak. Interesting composition. The garbage is hidden behind the beautiful facade. A metaphor for life perhaps?

Nice sky.

there was a bomb threat called in at the corner of yonge and alexander street today - about half a block away from that clock tower. the whole area was blocked off for a few hours.

for some reason this fact completely changed how i saw this photo.

thanks!

The clock tower doesn't belong to a fire station. It's a Toronto landmark that was as famous as city hall at one time. It is the top of the old St. Charles Tavern, a focal point for the gay community in the 1970's. The Canadian Lesbian and Gay community operates an amazing archive web site at http://www.clga.ca/
It's the kind of archive every city/neghbourhood should have.

hi sam! what about some photos for new year? i remember you didn't forget about that...

Posted by samira at March 21, 2007 05:59 PM

This one would probably be better in the spring when the snow melts. The contrast would be better.
