Nice wide angle shoht. I love the contrasting angles and colors. I can feel that wind, too!

Nice picture. The building looks really cool. I like the slanted roofs (it looks like you could ride a bike down them if there wasn't such a big drop at the end)

That's one beautiful Library complex.

I just returned from a trip and have lots to catch up on. I quickly browsed the archives of what I missed while away and I love all the snow shots.

I'm wondering if your part-time job is just standing around and yelling at your muscles to stay put.
Handheld?
Oi..
This is crisper then crispy nuggets!
By the way, beautiful photo.

Obviously you're working too hard and have too little time for fun.

Your image is reasonable but what a pathetic structure.

Wow. Gorgeous colours!

I'm surprised you kept the foreground. May you explain why you judged it useful?

Posted by Jonas at March 9, 2007 02:58 PM

great blue in the sky and nice sunlight on the building. But this time, a bit to much foreground for me...

You have made great use of the space, and the lines. I was here last summer but wouldn't think it would've made such a great shot. The sky is excellent.

thanks for sharing.

This is a fabulous picture. I love going to the British Library!

Also known as the 'British Book Bunker' or BBB for short.

Wow! That's Heaven.

Very nice colours

I can't speak for you Sam but my answer to Jonas above would be that the foreground diagonal geometry compliments and echoes the geometry and angles of the building structure behind. In my humble opinion, I think the tile pattern was a very appropriate inclusion as it adds a lot of power to the composition.

This building was supposed to be one of England's 'great projects'. Moving the library from the British Museum was a good idea but I've always been disappointed by the result. It's well planned and conceptually I hear it works well from people who frequent it. But I just can't help thinking it looks like a 60s 'red brick' university building. These kind of projects should be a focus of national pride, an inspiration, not a competent solution.

Still, it worked out better than Mitterrand's French 'open book' library where wooden boards had to be placed over many of the windows to protect the books within.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you get the picture to be this wide? Is it due to the lens?

Posted by azalea at March 15, 2007 09:38 PM

wow, nice. I went there with a couple of photographer friends and while they allowed us take pictures of the buildings and sculpture (to the left of this picture) as soon as we set down our tripods, a nice gentleman quietly advised that tripods were not allowed.

That said, how do you keep my arms steady when taking shots like this?
